So when you render the vs files to wav, does that mean each track you have recorded in the song will be given its own wav? or does reaper just convert all tracks to a stereo mix wav?

IIRC, each track is placed in its own mono channel in Reaper.

Oops! I see now that you're talking about VS tracks ALREADY in Reaper..... I thought you meant how does Reaper open them from the VS song file...

It depends on how you want it, both are possible. Play around with the 'Render master mix' & 'Render "stems"' buttons.
If you want just stems then be sure to select mono files higher op on the render-menu, otherwise you'll end up with double the amount of diskspace...

And finally you can play with the resample mode. Might be unnecessary, but I select the best (extreme 512pt), have to wait a bit anyway so why not.

Cheers,

Peter

Hi,

Yep, a VSR-880. But w.r.t. the speed-problem, I couldn't say it better than Bear has already done, please see the info above.

 Quote:

Yep, that should work as a path for transfer of data from VS-machine to PC (and then onto reaper), but no 'ripping' involved; ripping alsways sounds to me that there's a CD involved in some way.
Just record on the Zip (or copy a song to it from internal IDE-HDD) and put the Zip-disk in the other Zip-drive. Works fine, it's just that 100MB isn't that much data. (Dunno if the 250MB-Zips work here.)

Cheers,

Peter

Hello Mike,

It's not a waste of your time if you take it slowly and make sure you read each step accurately and perform the steps correctly.

Now to start your troubleshooting, tell me exactly what you did to get the error and please tell me exactly what the error said.

Hey Mike,

I never owned a 2400 so I won't be the best person to help you with that. We do have a 2400 forum here that you can ask questions in.

Back to your problem:

It says it is not found? This was a DOS message? What were you doing when that message occured?

mbutler - I pm'd my phone number to you - call me if you like and I will try to help you get going...

You should edit your post above and remove your phone #

I am sure that information will be very helpful to Bear. Thanks for posting it. Now give bear a call. He would be able to help you with this better than anyone else here.

Good luck! \:\)

I have got things to work using the VSWaveExport (non Reaper)
by doing a lot of "extra" work. But it is a pain.
What do I need to put in the command-line
of the rip from cd part of VSWaveExport?
This is the part I cannot get to work, which will make things much faster.
I can make it work by using DOS, batch, etc then dragging into app, but not just the ripper in VSWaveExprot.
Please somebody!
Thanks
Jason

The critical thing is making sure that it's pointing to the correct drive for ripping. I've gotten bit by that one more than once when using a drive that's different than the last one I used.

IIRC, there should be a default command when you first open the program. If you've lost that, maybe you could uninstall and re-install the program to get it to reset to the default as a starting point.

Just throwing some ideas your way.
Good luck,
DanT

format of the command line inside of danielos vs wave export program is

cd2roland <DRIVE LETTER WITHOUT A COLON> "<output path>"

for examle if your cd drive is drive D and you want to save to TEMPRIPPER directory

cd2roland D "c:\tempripper"

I gotta say, I was VERY excited about this. I first looked at the tutorial last summer, thought it was quite a bit to do and never really had the need to do this, as I haven't used the VS in sometime. So now I have 16 trks of an old project to export and go "GREAT! I'll try this out!"...Spent the last hour or so reading up and give it a whirl. I extract everything ok, w/o a prob but of course when I have to do the important stuff, like covert to WAVS, I get this error when dbl cliking on the VS Wave Export icon....ugh....what.....a......drag.......I just burned so much time on this .

If you read Danielos download page he describes exactly what to do in this situation

http://www.thegoodlibrary.com/VSWaveExport.html

However, to paraphrase him

1. Download the file - many places to get it like

http://www.ocxdump.com/download-ocx-files_new.php/ocxfiles/M/MSCOMCTL.OCX/6.01.9782/download.html

2. Copy it into c:\windows\system32 (presuming you are using XP)

3. Click start then click run to open a command box

4. type regsvr32 \windows\system32\MSCOMCTL.OCX

5. hit enter and you should see "DllRegisterServer ... succeeded"

you should be good to go....

I would try the Reaper route if the VsWavExport program is giving you so much trouble.

You are not supposed to drag the SONGx FOLDER into the VsWaveExport program window.

You are supposed to drag the SONG.VR6 FILE from inside the subdirectory.

Thanks again. I do appreciate your help. I just kept messing around till I figured it out myself.

You know,I'm by no means the sharpest knife in the drawer, no argument there, but I have to learn how to use some fairly complicated kit now and then and when after I successfully rip all the VS files to my specified folder and it creates a folder called SONG1 I'm going to to start by dealing with the "SONG" folder, as I assumed that that I'd have to drop all the contents to be converted.

Now open another Windows Explorer window and navigate to where your extracted SONG file or your VirDis File is stored. Drag the file (left-click, hold left and move mouse) onto the white box underneath the “Found Roland Drives:” and release the left button.
You will get something like this (does not apply if you work on SONGS):
Exporting Roland

I guess I read drag your extracted song "file" as folder, so my bad, but honestly, this looks like an easy mistake based on these instructions.

Anyways, thanks again for the replies and thanks to the Devs of this, as it really makes things a lot easier. cheers.

"Reaper" recording software is still Windows only, I believe.
The "Ripper" program is also Windows only.... I believe.

Question - what are the results for multiple CD backups? In other words, if I backed up say 7 songs and it took up 4 backup cds. SHould it work the same as if it were just one song on one disc?

ps - forgive me if the answer's already in this thread, but I'm not really in the mood to pore over a dozen pgs at the moment - cheers.

Yes, it works the same. You will have to rip all 7 songs from the disc though.

Of course, it's best to avoid the multi-cd backup to begin with and calculate how best to distribute your 7 songs over the least number of cds without having spill over.
But, if you've already done it... like Funky said.

Stratoj - describe when you get that error. Are you running Danielos program? As far as I know that is not an error message that the ripper can issue.

BlueKid - If you use the ripper for multiple CD backups YOU MUST RIP IN ORDER or files can get garbled.

Also I am not sure that Danielos VSWaveConvert program handles multilple CD backups correctly. It would be better to run the standalone through a command window or a .bat file.

Scorpios - as I posted in the BR1600 forum - if you send me a sample backup disc I will see if I can adapt the ripper to work with those.

srokSrz - it MIGHT work under parallels - it definately works on my MacPro running bootcamp. No native MAC version.

Good point, bear! I always forget to mention that because I use the Reaper method when I rip files and convert to wavs. So everytime I answer a question, I am speaking from that method.

Hey Vince, et al,

There's a user in the 840 forum asking about importing from a ZIP 250 disk formatted by the VS-840GX into Reaper using the plugin written by 'RandyGo' ...

Our '840' knowledge base is unaware of any Windows-OS based plugin that will read from an 840EX or GX formatted ZIP 250 disk ... basically, we've discovered through more than a few 'blown' 840EX's, that a ZIP 250 disk formatted by an 840EX or GX, is NOT compatible with the Windows OS ... users have blown their 840EX and GX machines, by using Windows to copy the ROM flash file to a VS-840EX or GX formatted ZIP 250 disk. The problem was confirmed by Roland US a few years ago, and their response was to remove all the EX and GX ZIP disk based ROM update files from their web site. Flash update disks made with Windows OS invariably leave the 840 with a 'Bad Flash' status, recoverable only through MIDI update. Or at least, that's a story we've heard users tell dozens of times

We've suggested to Osmundo that he must first export the files from GX 250 ZIP to a GX or EX formatted 100 ZIP disk ... or CF, or HD - any standard Windows FAT 16 file system media that can be moved to the PC.

Will the 'RandyGo' plugin allow for import from an EX or GX ZIP 250 disk to Reaper? In other words, have you guys figured out how to beat the ZIP 250 disk format incompatibility issues with the Windows OS?

Us 840 diehards are baffled! Thanks in advance!

Jack (Cornjerker, formerly John444)
