I'm thinking of puchasing another VS-1824CD from ebay. It is listed as having Version 1.5 system. My VS-1824CD is Version 1.0. Does anyone know if this will this cause problems if I synch them?
Thanks
Mike

Sorry 'bout that. Strike the second "this" in the fourth sentence. Once you talk good english, can't nobody take it away from you.

I won't say no there won't be any problems with syncing, because you never know what could change from one version to the next...
But my guess is that there would be no problem with sync brought about by a version change. It's doubtful to me that Roland introduced any sync-related changes as late in the game as the 1824cd.

On the other hand, if you're buying an 1824, ver. 1.5 and you're concerned, there's nothing stopping you from updating your own ver. to 1.5?

There's only one os version listed on the Rolandus site, by the way. It's ver. 1.501. Maybe you should update your 1824cd to the last known update while Roland still has it available... or at least download it and save it to your pc in case they should ever decide to stop supporting it.

Thanks Dan. The ver 1.00 I have works for everything I need. I was hoping not to have to "fix something that isn't broken". I was under the impression that the main feature of the update was to support the VSF-3 card. Good idea though to download 1.501 before it is no longer available. Will do.

hi there mike,

im also running a 1824cd,

i would advice only update (your current vs-1824,to 1.5,
only if you install the VSF-3 card)
cuz it's slowdown a bit the vs-operation.

i would (downgrade your new vs to 1.002
(that's what im running now.)without any glitch

version 1.002 is only available on roland.uk

version 1.2

scrool down till you find this one:
VS-1824CD System Update Version 1.002 (PC - SMF)

(downlaod also the SMF-midi player(really easy to do woth it)
it play all 16-midi files "one shot".

then all you need is a midi-conection from your pc-to-your-vs-midi-in.

if you need more assistance, dont hesitate to post back here!

What Martin said is good advice. I would have also suggested something before ver. 1.501 had it been there. I have the same issue with ver. 2.5 for the 1680...... won't use it.

I wouldn't fix it either....... if it ain't broke.

Martin's suggestion would be wise though because there may be some update in that os that's worth putting in...... It would certainly be tried and true by this time. :>)

Dan - Thanks for the further advice.
Martin - Thanks for the warning about 1.5. and the link to Rolanduk. I've downloaded the file and player. I have a Motu Micro Lite midi/usb interface. I have no experience with a sequencer. Could it be as easy as connecting the motu to the computer and roland and then telling the sequencer to "play" the update files?

welcome mike \:D

here a quick step by step for "downgrade"your new vs from 1.5 to 1.2:

Connect the MIDI OUT port of your motu hardware to the MIDI IN
port of the VS-1824.

Hold down TRACK SELECT/CH EDIT button 7 and STATUS button 7
while powering on the VS-1824. The message "System Update?"
will be displayed.

Press YES. The message "Waiting MIDI-EX" will be displayed.

now on your pc:double clik the UpdSMF.exe,
select the midi-out for your motu,
then:
click:Scan SMF once they are loaded.

clik send!

then let it run allthe 16midi files,
& have a look on the vs,if there no errors occure while it receive the updates midi files.

After all SMFs have been played into the VS-1824, the
message "Update SysPRG?" will be displayed. Press YES.

The message "Please Reboot OK" will be displayed. The
system software of the VS-1824 has now been updated.

Restart the VS-1824 (power off and then on again).
The new system version will be displayed as the unit is
booting up.

it's really easy to do,you will see! \:D

Not sure where you can find that (early?) version of the OS. Roland seems to be streamlining their download pages these days and only offers the most current OS update... at least the U.S. site.

You can find that update here, by the way: http://www.rolandus.com/products/details/337/downloads

Was your 1824cd working properly before you performed the update?
Did you unzip the folder containing the update files?
Did you perform the update fully without interrupting it?

You might try loading it again to see if it corrects the problem.
You might try re-downloading it and doing the update again, with the assumption that the download file was corrupt.

before the update everything worked. upgrade did everything correctly. re-update does not change anything. I did downgrade to version 1.500. Customer support can not provide earlier OS versions. they send me files with the correct names, but inside the OS version 1.500! I do not know what to do...

So, you've been in contact with Roland tech help and they're not able to help you figure out what's wrong?

I found ver 1.500 here: http://www.roland.com/support/article/?q=downloads&p=VS-1824CD&id=1812769

and ver 1.501 here: http://www.rolandus.com/products/details/337/downloads
or at the uk site here: http://www.roland.co.uk/products/productdetails.aspx?p=337&tab=Downloads

I don't find anything older, as you say... I also don't see anything else that might point to the issue you have.

Can't Roland tech help advise you as to a way you might get your screen display corrected? It seems like the update files must have been corrupted.

Are you sure your computer is virus-free? Is it possible that your download is being corrupted by a virus on your PC?

in this case, a virus must be written exactly for this type of equipment. this is unlikely. I think the problem is in the operating system. if the file has been damaged, the unit would not accept it. it verifies the checksum at the end of loading the data. Maybe someone has a version 1.002 on his computer and can help me? I checked everywhere, it is nowhere

Great news!
Mind telling us what the correct os is and a link where to find it, for those others who may need to know sometime?

Glad you got it up and running again!

So, I take it someone who had it stored away put it up there for you to download? It's nice that you found the version you were after.

Do you have any clue as to why the newer version messed your machine up? That's really odd to me... never seen anything like it before.

I have no assumptions about it. maybe it was because I updated the OS with VS8F-2 card and not with VS8F-3. it is the one possible cause of incompatibility... I do not know what architecture is implemented in this studio and how it works...

To see what version you have hold down the STATUS and TRACK buttons down for track1 while turning power on

As discussed above - the ONLY reason to update to 1.5 is if you are trying to use the -3 effects cards in it.

the 3 cards are awesome, but so is the effort to sell your 1824 and upgrade to the 2480. I used to track on (2) 1680s & (1) 1880 all linked together, the 2480 is so much better! Using the vga monitor and mouse is the way to go!

Personally, I couldn't imagine trying to use the plug-ins on that little LCD screen, but that's just me.

Thanx Keeppracticing,I do use the 2480cd,and yes ,I agree! ,its a great piece of work ,especially with the 3 card and plugins...But I still have this 1824cd,the VSpro software and a vs3 card ..I was just wondering and curious(but have to try it out myself I guess) if the three work together. In the meantime,I am looking for another 2480CD/DVD,but they are hard to come by over here in the Netherlands...Cheers,
Frank

Try running the update again. It was possibly corrupted during the process. Or maybe even download the update files again and update the VS from the new copy.
