Hey guys!
Question: When I have opened some of the files in Reaper sometimes there will be a track that is just static. Any idea why this is?
Thanks!

Hey Martin,
Thanks for the reply. Can you explain what "bounced tracks in mastering mode(mastering room)switch to on." means?
Thanks!

Hi Jimmy,
i will need to get out my 1824 manual, the way i can give you a good explanation about why (mixdown-tracks) in mastering-room-mode,can only be playable in the vs,& also when burned onto a audio-cd,direct from the vs.
by the time i think that in mastering mode, the master track 17/18 does some kind of pre-image cd audio...
but like i'v said, i will chime on it,on this eveningh..night & reply back.

If there's some problem copying those master tracks to a cd-r backup.... which seems pretty odd to me..... can't you simply copy them to a couple of "normal" virtual tracks somewhere (like tracks 15-16/v15-16) before making the back-up disc?
I don't recall ever having difficulty backing up and recovering the master track pair after using the mastering room to create them, using the 1680.... hmmmm.

the issue Dan,it's not on the vs.
it's when extracting the vs(back-up)cd on the PC using bear, daniello, randygo's softwares.
those mastering tracks produce loud noise when converting to wave file(on the pc).
(oh hey im not conplaining,it is not an issue, cuz at all when we use a vs-back-up cd,on the pc using bear, daniello, randygo software,it's for mixing on the pc!!! not on the vs..:D)

Just an FYI to everyone in response to a problem a guy was having over in the 2480 forum...
The code in the ripper as it stands now will only accept an output path 32 characters long or file corruption will occur. If I put out another version I will extend this limit... for now, keep the output path to 32 or less.

Dan and Bear,
On a new song, I have ripped all the tracks into a folder ok. These are safe and sound. However when I went to "export" the tracks I created a different folder name, highlighted the VT's ok but when I try to execute the move, the message reads "runtime error 53" and "file not found "RDAC.dll". However that last file RDAC.dll does look to be included within the VS Wave Export file, so not sure if it's me (again), or my computer.
The other thing to mention (possibly new thread-worthy not sure). On my two other songs which I successfully moved to wav (thanks to you guys during the fall) I was able to mix with my Adobe Audition. When it came to transferring over to my producer's software Nuendo of course there was a problem with the session files not synching up. However there is a guy who has developed stg called AA Translator which is supposed to render (sorry, couldn't resist) compatible various DAW's. We are still having trouble and I have not purchazsed but they are bending over backwards to make sure our two programs synch up ok with all the mix instructions. Are you guys aware of this? If not, I'd bet there are other planeteers that might be interrested.
Anyway for now, that export area is the one for me..
Thanks

Thanks Dan, I hope to post on that software (have sent a message this morning to the owner to make sure they are ok with my post). Also hoping that my RDAC.dll issue is solvable, since I can't transfer on either of my computers at this point (long story).
Thanks again for your help, and will post that as a new subject message once I hear back.

Dan, I have posted that new thread on AA Translator. Hope the folks can use their service. I posted here on the 1880 board, since the DAW boards look fairly quiet? Not sure if that's the best but certainly more active.

Hey Guys, I'm using the VSWE1.24a with the CD2Roland update that allows up to 1000 characters in the path.
My question this... If the projects you are trying to import and convert to WAV were backed up across multiple CDs on the 2480 will this still work? I thought it would maybe ask me for the next disk when it finished with the first one but it didn't so now I'm wondering what is there and what isn't. I'm not actually restoring these on my audio machine and it is at another location right now so I can't really test to see what is there at the moment. Just wondering if anyone else has had this issue. Thanks, Chad

I do not trust the VSWE program to correctly handle the ripping of multiple CD projects. I have seen it do screwy stuff.
I recommend using the ripper standalone for these, either froma a command window or a batch file, then just drag the files into VSWE after the rip is done.
You will not be prompted for multiple CDs. Just rip them one after another IN ORDER and FROM THE SAME folder.

Paul - I do not understand your problems.
The .dll not being found suggests to me you are trying to run the VSWE from outside it's folder. It sounds to me like the .exe is trying to access the .dll and not finding it. Where the actual data files from the VS are should make no difference at all.
Your comments abpout moving are confusing - what are you moving, where are you moving it from and moving it to.
Files not lining up do not make sense to me - all converted wavs should render from time 0 on, and be in sync. I do not understand your comments on audition or nuendo, nor do I have any experiance with them.
What are you mixing in audition? What are you moving into nuendo?

Bear, Thanks for the advice and all your work on this. Just one more question as I'm a little confused about what you mean when you say "Just rip them one after another IN ORDER and FROM THE SAME folder." Did you mean to say TO the same folder on my PC? Not trying to be a smart a**, just want to make sure I really understand all of this before I sell my 2480 and can't go back. Thanks Again, Chad

Run the ripper from the same directory (say c:\Temp or C:\rip or something), and do not specify an output path for the ripped filesw - this will insure all files from a single song accumulate into the correct SONG directory even if they come from multiple discs.

I'm the guy asking about a MAC version for ripping Roland Backups. I found a forum on mac forums for programmers, I got 3 people interested in tackling the project. They may want to contact you just for a bit of reference....but I'm going to mail them a cdr backup and they seem intent to figure it out just by inspecting the windows version of cd2roland backup
Just thought mac users might want to know about this exciting possibility of ripping backups into reaper, etc Ben
Greetings Just came across this old thread and, hope springing eternal, am excited about the possibility of a port to the Mac. Wondering if it ever got off the ground?

I did a copy playable of all songs on a partition to my external SCSI hard disk. I then plugged it into the PC and copied all the data to a directory on my PC hard drive. Using Reaper I opened a song.
This method works fine here as well (XP), but I realized that we might perhaps have an issue with SCSI-support when going to Windows 7 ?
As in: driver hassle for PCI-cards like say Adaptec 2904 & NCR 810 ? As I read there was driver-hassle, or issue sorted already ?
Thanks!

Mac version is underway! Currently the software will recognize when a VS backup CD is inserted, and extract all files from the archive.

New to forum...picked up a used 1824, for the purpose of "limitation", to stimulate creativity. Great to hear that a Mac version of VS CD Backup is on the way. If your looking for beta testers, I'd be glad to help!

There's an awful lot of instructions in this thread and more than one method. You're going to have to be much more specific in order to get useful help.
You should describe what you've done so far in detail, starting with what you put on the cd-r you are trying to use on the PC... is it a data backup disc from a song file that is NOT in any of the LIV modes (They are not supported)?
Describe which method you are trying to use to get the files onto the PC as well as any other details that will help us understand where you are in the process.

Followed your instructions, & when I double click on VS Tracks Ripper, I get a quick flash with a black screen..
copy these 2 lines into a file in notepad.
cd2roland X pause
Replace the X with the drive letter of your CD drive (d or e or whatever YOURS is)
Save the file as RIP.BAT (normal text file).
Make sure it is saved into the same folder as the file cd2roland.exe that you downloaded.
(you did UNZIP the downloaded file right? You do have a file named cd2roland.exe?)
Now when the .bat file runs it will wait for you to hit a key at the end so you can read what the error is that is preventing it form working

Ok, I opened Notepad, & typed Cd2Rolande (e is my drive letter), I then went to File & Save as. I typed in RIP.BAT & saved to my folder named Test.. I did not download a file cd2roland.exe, no sorry I don't see a file cd2roland.exe It looks like I missed downloading this file & unzipping it. I will see if I can find it & download & unzip it. Thanks for your patience, I'm 76 & trying to cope with this computer stuff. John

5. Copy the cd2roland file into the "test" folder along with the bat file. Close the folder.
OK this is where I'm having a problem.. I got the rip.bat in my test folder. where do I find the cd2roland file & copy it into the same folder (test)??

make sure there is a space between cd2roland e (not cd2rolande)
By adding the word pause on the next line it will allow seeing any DOS error messages
The ZIPPED version of cd2roland is here (end of the page)
http://www.ps139.com/vs880ex/util/
Then you need to UNZIP it and you will have cd2roland.exe
