Since we have a Beatle forum, Why no Hendrix Forum? Just as groundbreaking and influential from my point of view. Everything you hear or heard in last 50 years is a derivitave of Elvis, The Beatles, or Hendrix.

Well, let's not snub Elvis then either..... Where's his forum?
Could call Hendrix's forum "Red House"............

Don't know if you are ribbing me or not, Dan, but let me explain:
These are called VS forums because they deal mostly with VS stuff, The underlyng theme (thank you RUSH) is Recording, and pushing the boundaries of such. Each of the above did just that, push the boundaries of their era "recording capablilties" with out which, we wouldn't be discussing the everyday recording on to a computer, or virtual computer (vsxxx). And as I said, everything we hear or have heard in the last 50 or 60 years, can be traced right back to one or more of these 3 in each instance. Kind of like the Kevin Bacon game, only in music/recording.
In Elvis' case, it wasn't so much him, but what had to be created or pushed, or tweaked like never before, just to get the (pardon the pun) Elvis experience on to tape and record, Sun went far enough as getting the slap back echo, something we take for granted today, but that was as far as they could go. When RCA got him, they immediatley upgraded two track to 4 track, just to get what they were hearing in the studio, onto tape, any of those engineers still around will tell you, they still didn't hit the mark, or do him justice.
As for the Beatles, they started out with a great debt to Elvis (musically), and his producers (sonically). George Martin learned his lessons well, and in just a few years, 4 maybe, would set the recording world on it's ass with "SGT. Peppers" The musical genius of the Beatles, pushed the Technical genius of Martin, into once again devising whole new ways to get what were in their heads onto tape. It should be an example and encouragement to all recordists, That "Pepper's" was done on 4 track tape (granted, top of the line equipment, a great room, and many, many, bounce "mixes") and is still the Bench Mark that all producers/engineers strive to reach.
Just as an aside, if you haven't already, read how Queen did "Bohemian Rhapsody", Opera middle and all on just 8 Tracks, absolutley amazing, IMHO.
And Jimi, Good Lord, talk about changing recording (and music itself) even as a contemporary of the Beatles, he used the studio in ways they could only imagine, like a rocketship, the studio was such a part of his DNA that it pretty much cost him everyone that cared about him while he was alive. Think your wife bitches about how much time you spend in your studio, imagine what he went through, without the wife though.
Both "Are you experinced?" and "Axis" were done on 4 track, except for I believe "if 6 was 9" on Axis, they got to use an 8 track.
Want to see what you can do with eight tracks and otherworldy talent, listen to the verion of "Star Spangled Banner" on the box set. I think it was originally issued on "Rainbow Bridge", but regardless, not the live version from Woodstock(genius btw), but a studio creation, all guitar and bass and many over dubs, and not a synth in sight.
I hope I've made my case, not as eloquent as I used to be, the MS has taken alot of it from me.
Greg

Smiles, helped...lol, But I kinda knew you "got it" Dan, the whole case thing was for anyone else that didn't. I agree it is a debatable issue, and would love the debate.
If I come off as trying to get you or something or whatever, it is comepletely unintended, you have taken the time, to help, and explain a lot of things to me. I hold you in high regard, baleed Dat!!

Damn, yes you are absolutley right about Les Paul, Just creating multi tracking should put him in the hall of fame, but the stuff he did with his wife Mary, while not quite Rock N Roll, it is amazing none the less.

This forum is a legacy, a special forum created by the previous owner to talk about the Beatles. He's a big Beatles fan, as am I.
I think we're likely not going to be proliferating forums. We'll be reducing them at some point in the near future, after the new year.

Thanks FlatCat. I am huge on the Beatles as well, I was so excited to see a non- Beatle fan site, actually have a forum dedicated to the best group of all times, I just thought I'd suggest the other ones.
I see it as a Triumvirate, I hope that is the way you spell that
Elvis> The Beatles> Jimi Hendrix.
But , I understand. IF everybody got their Favorites on here, there'd be no room for the great info and help at the top of the whole shebang.
