I think I have been in the biz ~ too long -- time & money is my incentive ...and the clients differ that cost > to fidelity. 44 vs 96 doesn't enter their scope.

Learn what buffers do...and how to change them.

Use aux routing for fx like you would on a real mixer. Don't insert time fx on every channel. Seen it done WAY too much.

Use no virtual Instruments. Meaning at first. You need to isolate if you hav e a problem with your machine and audio...or a specific VI, as there are different things to look at.

I mean, there's optimizing for background services. Never actually seen that help...or hurt...but, theory, that should be set.

Grachus...you have an issue with all the pops and clicks. I've not had issues like that since Win9x and corrupted multi client drivers. Every time you bring it up, I ask what your buffers are set at...and don't get an answer. See first tip.

But, also, back to the original post...analog mixer on the front end makes it all way easier. Set the buffers huge--who cares? Set it and forget it.

I like the analog on the way in and on the way out... at least EQ /Comps/ & Pres ..
Although I do wish our Kurzweils had 8 digital outs ...our early Roland keys had the Rbus ~!

Never used time fx nor pitch editing ,,,well we don't have the software/hardware or the knowledge to apply the app.

WAV editing is not quick & easy on the VS > so its passed over.

In the meantime > ,,,,and how do change the buffers to be more user friendly for your DAW ??

Time effects...are reverb...delay...the biggest CPU hogs.

i hardly ever use reverb anymore...
typically, it's simple delay.
short, and sweet.

i almost never use plugs on individual tracks..

i'll set up as many as 12 sub busses, and use them in ALL KINDS of ways...

it's almost..... pornographic.
how i have my way, with my DAW

Probably a main reason we use only external effects .. and cheaper for a used TC /LEXI rack ,,, then some plugins > I imagine ?? .

Average about 10 presets per unit > 8 stereo effects = I/0 RBUS ... enough for most productions.

Verbs are usually designated to drums/horns/accompaniments

We don't tweak too much --
