Hi, my buddy and I would like to be able to work on projects together using his br-8 and my 840gx. Will these two models be compatible? The br-8 is waiting to be upgraded to a 250mb zip drive and the 840gx manual states that it can import br-8 tracks. We have yet tried anything and while the wait I would greatly appreciate any feedback.

Although the original post is nearly a year old.....

Let me just point out that in my opinion the first thing to figure out is whether or not the br-8 can import and edit 840gx files....... We already know that the reverse should be true, according to the original poster and the manual, evidently.

Once you figure that part out, then just simply try a test with someone to confirm. It should be easy enough to find a test subject here on the forum, if you don't already have someone in mind (I would offer, but don't use either of those machines).

Good luck....... it's great to be able to work that way. I've done it for years with a friend who owns the same VS as me.

i have a br 600 in my studio. it became my "always on" recorder since it had no HDD it was a no brainer to keep it on and every once in a while, having it ready was kinda handy at 3 am...
now that i have my 1880 converted to CF cards, it is very easy to turn it on and hit record, so now i want to convert and catalogue what is on the br 600, and retire it as a studio device and probably keep it as a traveling recorder.

i will be horsing around with the compatability issue here shortly and let you know what i figure out or blow up

That may be tough to accomplish... I don't remember the 1880 being able to import BR 600 recordings and the 1880 doesn't have wav import, so converting the BR tracks to wav on a pc won't be much help. You may end up having to re-record track-for-track from the BR to the 1880 in realtime to accomplish this goal.

you're right about that. neither machine recognizes the other's CF cards. the only software i have working is Garage Band which didn't know what to do with the files from the BR600 either.
i probably won't spend a boatload of time on this, while it would be nice to find a way to swap files back and forth, the BR600 will remain a viable candidate for recording while on the road...

Have you downloaded the br600 wave file converter and used it to make those files accessable in Garage Band?
