Wow... it finally happened.
Tom did inform us that he was dying and that he was preparing for his death with his own homemade casket and everything.
Of course, he and I did not see eye to eye on things like religion and politics, but we always maintained a level of respect for one another. I never got nasty with Tom and he never got nasty with me.
I am saddened by his passing, just because if for no other reason than he was a major staple around here with whom I did have some pleasant interaction with.
RIP Tom.

RIP Tom. I feel a little weird about this. He and I did not get along well from our very earliest exchanges here. None of that matters now - and I have regret for every time that the best of me did not show up in those discussions.

When I first joined the planet, I noticed this guy Tom Mix in the mudpit. After getting my ass spanked a couple of times, I couldn't understand why someone would submit themselves to that kind of abuse...so I PM'd him and suggested he maybe take a day off and lay low. He got right back to me and said he was "just having fun"...

Oh shit. I have not heard this.
He knew he was dying. A very strong person to deal with his own mortality the way he did.
I met Tom in Green Bay where we were playing. He came to a show and we sat and talked for quite a while.
Tom was relentlessly attacked and mocked for his political and especially his religious beliefs. Some by the very people mourning his death here and some who have not committed.
You know who you are and should be ashamed ....
RIP Tom Mix...

I spoke with Tom on the phone several times and got to know him and his family a bit.
Please do not confuse the Mudpit Tom with the REAL Tom. Although we had totally different opinions on political and religious matters, he became a friend. We had mutual respect, and great laughs on the phone.
I remember at a time where I was really broke beyond belief, he actually wired me 100 bucks. For him, that was a lot of money, for me it was a sign that good friends in need are good friends indeed.
Tom, I miss you buddy!
