Wow, knew he was sick for a good while, and read the thread about him prepping his casket, but didn't expect to see this now. Really sad to read.
Prayers for Tom's wife and sons. Lots of good memories of his posts.

Like Arthur, when I went through hard times, Tom sent me cash out of the blue. I'll never forget his generosity.
God Bless those who linger in his loss.

I'm sorry to hear this. We obviously didn't get along here, but I hope that he's found his own peace.

Just seen the new grill title. Very cool. Agreed! But the name is going to start getting pretty long as we old geezers keep dying off.

In all honesty. I think the "In Memoriam" Forum shows the ethos of the true community that has been developed here over the years.
How many other BBS's can you even find that has a graveyard/respect forum eh? I think it's very cool and stands in testimony to the members here.
Lets not forget that Folks! We are all decent 'good' folk here: Compassionate, loyal and friends.
But... Bet's on whos next? Place yer bets! Place your bets!
All kidding aside...
Look after yourselves.

These are the words I spoke at his funeral.
"My father was a musician, a song-writer, an inventor, a systems administrator, an army veteran in the 101st airborne division, a craftsman woodworker and master of the Unix computer language.
He single handedly saved a family from a house fire.
He served as a village trustee and helped to save The Fischer Creek Wildlife Refuge.
He stared into the face of the Devil and he held the hand of God.
Above all he sought the Truth he found in the Word of God and encouraged all who had an ear to hear.
I was privileged to have known him as my Dad, and I am blessed to call him my friend."

I had the privilege to meet your father and hang out and talk. He was a kind man and and witty. He really dug the country music show we put on that night.
You were blessed to have him as a father.

The only personal interaction I had with Tom was via phone, shortly after I started helping with the admin of the old site. He helped troubleshoot some Unix issues on the server.
My thoughts and prayers are with his family.

Tom suffered from the same disease that killed my Mom in 2010. He shared some thoughts with me at that time that were both very comforting and very frank.
I hope you used the casket that he built for himself.
Bless you and the family.

Of course you never pointed that put to Tom, Geo.
Doug, how would you know what I've said to Tom over all these years? I must have touched a nerve for you to say that, since you can't know what Tom and I may have discussed over these many years. If the shoe fits, in this case, you better go to a podiatrist.

"Doug, how would you know what I've said to Tom over all these years?"
I stand corrected--I've never seen you say it to him. Did you ever tell him he should be ashamed of himself for some of the things he said, since you're pressing the point?
"I must have touched a nerve for you to say that..."
It was an aggressive thing to say, Geo. I'm sure you hoped to 'touch a nerve,' otherwise you could have written privately. I'm ok, don't worry. Tom dished it out plenty, as I said. I wish him peace and a different, more peaceful plane of existence.
if you choose to believe that he was only responding to stones that were thrown, then that's your right. It doesn't make you correct.
