Hi All,
I record from the monitor outs to a wav recorder.
I use the Olympus LS20M.
It can record mp3 and WAV (24bit-96khz)
It uses SD cards so I then just transfer the audio to my computer.

This recorder does video also.

For audio:
Y cable 2 1/4" mono (Tip and Ring) to 1/8" stereo

once plugged into the mic port the on board mics are disabled.

Anyone else do this to records the finished mix?

Cheers,
Ian

I do something similar but I use a Yamaha CDR-HD1000 which allows me to make a digital connection.

You are converting the digital signal to analog and then back into digital.

I send audio from the VS2480's SPDIF (master) to a Tascam DA3000 recorder, which uses a CF card. I then put that card into my laptop and copy it to my mobile phone. The file is automatically converted to mp3 as it is copied to my mobile phone.

If canefire records from his mixer 1/4" monitor outs to the LS20M and then transfers the wav file to his computer, he doesn't appear to being doing D/A/D conversion. It looks like A/D conversion to me.

My VS2480 goes to an Avid Eleven Rack. The mastering on the VS is great, so I usually just need to normalize after recording.

I wondered if anyone else was doing this, I have been doing it for a while now. I use a little Tascam handheld recorder that records to an SD card in either wav or mp3 just like your recorder canefire. That keeps me from having to mess with a computer until the final product is done. Love it.

I do this at least for interim rough mixes aso. Final mixes usually get burned to CD or exported... The vs8f3 with t-racks gives a lot of possibilities. Only thing I ONLY do on the PC is normalization, as VS somehow got me too hot often (you may end up with clips, even if all of your recorded data are below 0dB, and that seems to happen on the vs)
