Even their clothing shows how different they had become from each other.

Made for fun conversation back then as to why they were dressed so differently. Well, while I certainly never believed in the Paul is dead conspiracy, I always wondered if it was a publicity stunt done by the group starting with the Pepper (or earlier) album. Pauls death symbolism in lyrics, pictures, backward sounds on the Pepper thru Abbey Road albums piqued my interest back in the day after the "Paul is dead" theory came to be. I'm sure you can look up the details on the other albums but as for the AR front cover crosswalk scene, (if you bought into the clues), Paul is dressed as the "dead man" out of step with the others, he is barefoot and holds a cigarette (coffin nail). John is the angel in white, Ringo dressed like the minister and George is the gravedigger. VW license plate is 28IF. Paul would have been 28 IF he had lived.

no, it was really just the clothes they individually felt comfortable in and decided to wear. They were mostly living or working in London which was then the fashion capital of under-30 culture. As a kid I can remember seeing Beatles posters on my older cousin's walls, then seeing people on the streets dressed the same. They had an influence on fashion, hair length, glasses.
Around this time you began seeing men with long hair, beards and round glasses - clones of Lennon.
John was in his White Period with Yoko. That was an artistic choice and philosophy of sorts. Perhaps subliminally John felt some spiritual evolution epitomized by dressing in white. It looks like a white linen suit which would have been cool on this summer day shoot.
Ringo's fashion sense grew over the years and he hung out with Peter Sellers and other celebrities. He was comfortably dressed.
Paul is in his casual chic.
George is in his 'modest working-class' jeans making his personal statement. Lennon had been there during the White Album but moved on.

Paul & John & Ringo were in fact wearing quite similar suits, all tailored by Tommy Nutter at 35a Savile Row (up the road from Apple Corps). Just different colours.

Except he wouldn't. Paul was born June 18, 1942. The date of the Abbey Road photo shoot was August 8, 1969. Paul was 27 years old.

That photo always makes me react like this - two of them, Paul and Ringo, are still "Beatling." Still posing for the cameras and fan mags. John and George, meanwhile, are gazing off in the distance, as if to say they are ready to walk away from the Beatles and become full-time solo artists.
