Hey guys, been a long time...

I'm getting ready to master some tunes on a current project. Signal chain will be 1824--D/A--rack--A/D--masterlink.

I use apogee A/D going into the 1824 while tracking. I have noticed a remarkable improvement in sound quality when clocking the 1824 to superior converters. My question is, will I benefit from continuing to use the apogee A/D going into the 1824 when playing back the recorded tracks? In other words, does the superior performance of the outboard conversion improve the sound of played back tracks as much as it does while recording them?

Thanks for any insight

Without knowing the Apogee product you're using, the quick answer is yes. If you did nothing to the tracks but a D/A and an A/D conversion, you could hear the results of the conversion, and the effect of the recording device(s). If input was about the same as output then you'd have your answer. The rack and the Masterlink would be what makes the difference. My music partner uses Apogee in and out and he's very happy with his results.

Thanks very much. I was specifically asking about clocking the 1824 to a good converter while playing back already recorded tracks for mastering. I did indeed get greatly enhanced results from using a Rosetta, and later a Mini-Me (which sounds somewhat clearer and wider than the Rosetta) for tracking.

If indeed the 1824 will playback at better quality while clocking to an external ad, I will need to pick up another 2 channels, maybe another mini me or perhaps I will just go ahead and get and Eventide Eclipse since I was thinking about getting one anyway (they have really good conversion)

Thanks. Anybody else want to offer their opinion or advice?
