I recently purchased VirDIS, which resulted in me losing hours of recorded data. There's more info on this in the 2480 forum, along with the below text about my experience trying to return the product to ASC. Just my two cents for anyone who is considering purchasing VirDIS.
------------------

An update in case anyone is interested, or for those considering VirDIS. The refund process was a total pain. I was repeatedly asked, and answered, the same questions about my system and what went wrong (I must have gone through everything four times), then I was sent a refund through paypal via echeck (which takes longer to process compared to a normal refund), instead of just refunding through ebay so it goes to my credit card. To make matters worse, the refund was $50 short. I was sent a 2nd refund, for the remaining amount, minus $12. Speaking of $12, which was for a return label, the dude was intent on getting it, despite the fact that I lost hours of recorded data when using VirDIS, went through a week delay to get an incomplete refund, answered his same questions over and over again. I initially agreed to pay for the return shipping, but after this fiasco, it's just weird to me the guy was so intent on getting it after all the crap I went through trying to deal with him.

I know a lot of folks have had good experiences, and some folks are super defensive of this guy. But from my perspective, this whole experience completely sucked, and I would not recommend VirDIS to anyone.

As almost everyone on this list knows, I go the extra mile to give top-notch support. So when a customer REFUSES to take part in a remote session (which I have done for many of you - at NO charge) to correct or diagnose a problem, there isn't a lot I can do.

As for the refund compliant, I followed all the instructions from eBay and did refund his extra $50 when alerted to it. Given the non-cooperation of this customer we were probably within our rights to deny the refund but, of course, did not.

We continue to support ALL our customers regardless of temperament!

Best regards,
Bill Casey

Bill,

Thanks for the passive aggressive response. Personally, I prefer to be more direct. I did not just refuse a remote session. You took several days to get back to me, by which point I'd already lost data MULTIPLE times and then filed a return on eBay. As I told you when you finally replied, I had already removed the card from my computer and boxed everything up. If I had not, over the course of several days, already spent hours trying to get your software to work, and more hours copying and losing information, then maybe I would've been willing to unpack everything and reinstall it. If I'd heard from you sooner, or had not lost data multiple times because your software kept crashing, then I would have been happy to do a remote session. If you call that "refusing", then I'm not sure what to tell you. Maybe don't take so long to respond to customers sending you emails stating that they just lost hours of recorded data.

As I told you via email, I bought VirDIS because I'd heard good things about it for years, and good things about your service. However, my experience with your software sucked, and my experience dealing with you was a pain in the ass.

Hay Mob , sorry to hear of your issues with virdis . i am just a small town studio but i have been using the roland vs 1680 and 1880 since the day they were released . it was a long and rocky road learning this gear with the non helpful roland user manuals and the cdrs rarely worked , i think i went thru 3 or 4 at @ $600 each . yes i lost tons of data with them , but the actual recordings on the vs workstations was perfect ! the effects boards and some creative bouncing techniques were amazing . the virdis system took a little getting used to but its done everything i need to get my songs backed up . after you finally figure out how it works correctly you have to register it by remote session . i understand that asc is protective of their software as much as i am protective of my music . i've never had to wait very long for support from asc and they always solved the issues promptly . all i can say is this is the best way to use these workstations efficiently , and i appreciate all the work asc does for these 25yr old but not obsolete recorders !

Always had nothing but superb support for Mr Casey -- above & beyond for us at the studio..

Also a nod to our member John Miker --for his help with the You Tube he created >> to help explain the steps /process ..

Still shinning with VIRDIS -- Mr Casey was more than helpful > with a extended REMOTE this evening -- I know no MFG /individual who stands behind his product -- as Bill has for us .

We have lost files /projects >> but, it was all user-related loss. Remember to consult MYKE's U Tube -- also !~!! Really helped explain the steps for VIRDIS..

Sure :: lots of us are artist /musicians first -- so it takes some brain work to wrap oneself around the software -- But, Mr Casey has been there to guide us along -- should you stumble ( as much as we have in the past )
Great product - & - even more of a fine gentleman ..
