Do a keyword search on ebay for - virdis roland - and the developer's listing will pop up. It's the only listing for the actual software/hardware system. VirDIS doesn't work without this hardware as far as I know, so having the software alone will not help.
Send a note off to the developer, Bill Casey, if you have questions. He's very responsive and helpful.

Hi
Thanks for your reply, I used some 'software' previously to convert the roland file to a wave format- do you know what that would have been? I've done a search and nothing comes up apart from 'VS Wave Export'- would that have been it?

Yep - VSWE (VS Wave Export) is the software. The current trouble with that is figuring out how to download a copy without pc security putting up a fight about it.
It's actually not harmful, but contains a file that pretty much all antivirus software now defines as Trojan. In my own case, I was recently able to add that file to the exceptions list in Security Essentials on my Win7 pc, so that I can run the software without an issue again. But I already had the software downloaded and store on the pc. Downloading it now is the big issue for me.
You might try downloading VSWE from the goodlibrary.com (I think the actual site is different now, but searching for this will get you to a proper link) and look for VS Wave Export version 1.24 (or is it 1.24a?). If you can download it without complaint, then try unzipping it and opening the unzipped folder. If still no complaint, then you should be able to create a shortcut to your desktop and run the utility.
The file that is tagged a Trojan, is the Cd2Roland.exe file. I can't verify whether VSWE works without the CD2Roland ripper tool because my pc is set up so that I can actually still use it now and so I can't test it. But Cd2Roland is the tool used to rip the files off the CD-R VS backups and is essential for those who have backups on cd.
But if you do not have cd backups and only have SONGS stored on cf or sd cards, then maybe you can still use VSWE to transfer tracks from flash media and convert those to wav files. VSWE will auto-sense your flash media and populate its main window with the Roland partitions it finds. From there, it's a breeze to select SONGS from the partitions list and convert the tracks to wav files.

Ah, yes I managed to by pass my firewall but when I export and then select 'VS Wave Export' I get an error message 'Component 'MSCOMCTLOCK' or one of its dependencies not currently registered: a file is missing or invalid'
Any ideas?

'MSCOMCTL.OCX' I think is the missing file name... with dot before the extension and an X at the end, not K???
At least this is what's commonly been reported. Anyway, you can find legit source sites to download the file needed and find accurate instructions on how to install and register the file so that Windows can find it.... https://www.google.com/search?ei=cRvNX_z...f=1607277461586
Try the websites that are Microsoft and/or windows specific for proper instructions and links. Your instructions will vary depending on what Windows os version you are using. This one looked good on a quick scan of the article - https://www.windows10free.com/fix-how-to-install-mscomctl-ocx-windows-10-missing/
It's not a big deal, but you do need it to use the VSWE. I take it that Microsoft left the file out of the os beginning with Win7 - I recall having to copy it to the system32 folder and making a registry entry, when I first installed VSWE on my 32 bit Win7 pc.

Hi, thanks this seems to be working now!
However, on my other laptop where the data is stored I I get an error saying 'Its time to update your device' and then relating to Microsoft store, I have tried to update multiple times but get the same issue, any ideas?

In the interest of questions revolving around VS Wave Export I have updated our VSWE install instructions as follows:
--------------------- These instructions have been provided by ASC as a courtesy due to the various problems encountered by VirDIS customers trying to install or reinstall the VS Wave Export utility, which we ship FREE with VirDIS with the kind permission of the author. We hope this helps and would appreciate hearing of any problems encountered following the steps below. Thanks, Advanced Storage Concepts, Inc. Updated: 22-Dec-2020
NOTE: If VS Wave Export has ALREADY been installed and runs properly, it has been observed that trying to RE-install it to another location will not work! This, we believe, is due to the manual entanglements i.e. references to the original install location in the Windows Registry. If already installed, simply keep running VSWE from this location.
There is NO solution at this writing for implementing any REinstallation to a different folder location. {The registration process outlined below (to be executed if an ERROR message pops up indicating that the MSCOMCTL.OCX file is missing) seems to lock VSWE to the original location.} FIRST time instructions (Win7-10) for installing VS Wave Export via VirDIS [ also required if VS Wave Export reports a 'missing file' error message ]
1. Run the VirDIS_Installer utility to do the install by checking the 'Install VSWE' box checkbox; this will create the appropriate folder and copy the files.
2. Register the MSCOMCTL.OCX control with the Windows operating system. Note: This needs to be with 'Run as administrator' privilege
a. Copy the MSCOMCTL.OCX file to the 'C:\windows\system32' folder. {On ASC's Win10 dev system we have noticed that, at some point, Windows _may_ have subsequently moved this file to the 'C:\windows\SysWOW64' folder.}
b. Click Start and navigate down to 'Windows System'. Underneath that right-click on 'Command Prompt' and select 'Run as administrator'.
c. At the command prompt ( C:\WINDOWS\system32> ), type the following command, and then press ENTER: Regsvr32 /s c:\windows\system32\mscomctl.ocx d: If you create a shortcut on the desktop that points to the installed 'VS Wave Export.exe' file, you should edit the 'Properties/Advanced' setting it to NOT 'Run as administrator'. [THIS IS A CORRECTION TO PREVIOUS NOTES]
e. Based on past experience either this will enable the VSWE utility to function OR the system _may_ have to be rebooted (perhaps more than once) for this to take effect.
FYI: When trying to drag a VirDIS (HDD) file into the VS Wave Export window, you MUST close the running emulation first; otherwise the *.HDD file can’t be opened by VSWE. [It is probably safest to SHUTDOWN VirDIS completely before dragging the HDD file.] --------------------------------------------------------
NB: ASC would 'like' to support any/all VS Wave Export issues but it is not our utility. We have only been granted permission to distribute it by the author, Daniel Aue. However, we DO support VSWE as best we can on a case-by-case basis.

Thank you Bill and thanks to Daniel Aue. I really don't know where the VS recorders could go from here without this support.
The enhancement - that linking VS files to the modern pc environment in such a solid, reliable way - is indispensable.

The link to the VS Wave Export download is no longer working, does someone have an updated link? I'm trying to convert some old back-up disks to Wav. Cheers, Mike
