wastebeaker wastebeaker Space Cadet Registered: 11/04/13 Posts: 3 Loc: norway	Hi guys. I have a cabin up in the mountains with a solar power system. I figured the old VS-840 could be nice to use up there and I was wondering if anybody knows of a similar project, or knows what voltage the original transformer puts out? I guess just swapping that for a cheap 12V to whatever transformer should give me VS ready for the cabin/road.. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Best regards

Instead of modding the machine, why not get/use a voltage regulator/converter that's adapted to your solar power and keep the VS in original configuration? _________________________ uptildawn

wastebeaker wastebeaker Space Cadet Registered: 11/04/13 Posts: 3 Loc: norway	yeah, well that's what I did for my laptop, got a 12V to 19V converter. but in the 840 power comes in as 240V AC through a standard computer power cable, and is transformed to around 20V dc (i guess) inside the box. I could get an inverter which would transform 12V to 240V and then plug it in, but that would not be energy efficient, it would be costly and it would not be fun. Guess I'll have to open it and check the voltage coming out of the transformer then replace it with something that can transform 12V to whatever it needs. That way I can use it in the car too $\:\)$
