Using 880ex live on stage

Hi everyone and I thank you in advance for any answers.
I have recently started performing again and have some questions.
I am wondering is it possible to use the 880ex on stage live as a mixer ?
Currently I have a Mackie desk with onboard effects and also a rack effects and compressor. What I would like to do is record all my professional backing tracks onto the 880ex and then preset all the vocal and guitar effects for each song. This way I am able to utilise all the effects for different songs.
If it is possible, how would I set this up in conjunction with my Mackie desk. Obviously, using the 880ex to record whilst performing is fairly straight forward but to use it as a live desk/effects unit is what I’d like to do.

Yes, but as mentioned in another recent thread, the proper shutdown procedure should be followed. Back in the "era" of these technologies, the hard drive, I believe, could sustain damage or corruption, if an unexpected power failure occurred.
Due, to this, some people in forums discussed running their VS with an inverter
and "external battery" of some sort. Just an FYI.

A UPS is always a part of my setup in case the trombone player trips over the cord. Long ago, we were running an Ensoniq Mirage kbd in place of a celeste for a production of Nutcracker. Just before the big celeste moment, a trombone player kicked the power cord and killed power to the Ensoniq. The conductor was also playing celeste, and was madly poking buttons to restart and install the proper patches- while the dancer was waiting in position. It's funny now…
It was an inconvenience, but there was no damage. With the VS, there is a chance of drive failure with a crash shutdown. Lesson learned.

Yeh, most likely your UPS is a battery + inverter.
I have not searched for the thread in the forum, but if you do, please add a link to it here, or at least the date that the thread started, and it would be quite helpful.
Basically, just not counting on the venue's power supply.
I am not aware under all conditions that the HD is written to. The
internal OS may periodically write, I just do not know.
