Ah, I see that you did ask here. \:\)

I just noticed your "shout" on the main page.

I also have a USB MIDI interface but I have not tried it yet
and I have the VS-880EX, which I have not used with MIDI in
at least 6 years, but I need to soon again.

There is a song contest on SoundCloud which I would like to
submit a song into. \:\)

The deadline for entries is 5/22/2012, which is 10 days.

I should have the first bit of dry vocals, which is the framework that everything will be built on, later today. \:\)

So, I may try the $20-Ebay generic USB interface that might be the same as yours.

If it is possible to get it to work, I will get it to work.

I have never even seen logic, but I assume that is not the major
variable in your equation. I assume that the MIDI interface will
show up somehow and somewhere in "Windows OS" when the driver
is installed and configured, if it even needs one.

I may get my VS-880EX out in 5 hours. \:\)

Thank you I first tried to use a midi sport. I am pretty sure that is what I used back in the day. And I could not get it to work so I also ordered a midi to usb from eBay and I should have time to mess with it tomorrow. I didn’t want to waste to much time before thinking sure my cables are not bad. Also the logic vs software is basically just used as a remote switch for the vs machine. I know I got this stuff to work the 890. I know I got this all to work back in 1999 when this was new. And now that my kids are all grown up I am getting back into my music Thank you for the reply. I will post any progress I make

What are you trying to achieve? VS Logic is horribly outdated, and was little more than a feeble attempt to lend relevance to the VS series in the dawning age of software DAWs, to begin with. Being tied to a computer is not, in my not so humble opinion, an attractive use case for a VS, nowadays.

It is nice to see someone else participating here.

I just peeked in, after a brief detour, when I made the rare
"venture" outside of the "grill", and saw the political forum
listed. I posted that fact, and mentioned this thread, and
that "logic" was a variable in the equation, yet to be solved.

I was hopeing that the logic vs would be a easier way to navigate through the vs890. And not as many layers of menu’s. And a better screen to view.

Ah, I see your hopeful perspective now, but I cannot add much
value in addressing it, since as I stated, I have never seen the
"logic" product, but several folks that I know are or have been
fond of it.

It appears that some folks here, possibly the ones that are more
"pro" then most, dislike the older software for many reasons.

I, and some folks around the world prefer to use "the older stuff",
for some, or all, of their endeavors.

You may wish to use something else, or investigate something else
at some point, or pursue what you are are trying to get to work now.

My plans changed yesterday, and I did not set up my old VS.

At some point I may use it to record, and "experiment", but most
likely, I will be composing MIDI tracks, since I have not been
practicing, and I am "rusty" as far as playing musical instruments
for that reason, and only that reason. \:\)

I have briefly "tested" some of my humble instruments, and my
playing abilities, as well as made some tweaks to the chairs
that I sit in while playing guitar, and tried a keyboard stand
for the first time in quite a while, over the last week or so.

I will need to get the generic USB MIDI interface to function, on
Windows initially, once again, a very inexpensive one from Ebay
that I acquired many years ago, but put the endeavor on hold,
due to some things that unexpectedly transpired.

If you posted information regarding the USB MIDI interface, it might
be helpful, if anyone sees this thread, to assist you.

I would be interested in hearing if you are making progress.

I may, or may not start using my VS-880EX this month, it
depends on a few unrelated things. And, same next month, etc.

It seemed to function as expected, it has a few issues, but I
tried many things, but I did not try the old VS-CDR. \:\)
