I realise this has been asked and answered before (I’ve read some previous comments) but here goes. I’m a long time PC, Mac and even reel to reel user but I recently bought a great conditionVS2400CD to kick start my recording interests again. I love the machine especially the ability to just switch on and record. I’ll eventually need to be able to move the tracks from machine to machine for editing etc. I’ve read about internal mods, swapping out hard drives etc but I’m wondering if there is a simpler way to export individual VS tracks into either my PC or iMac? All help appreciated, thanks.

Unlike with many of the VS machines, your 2400 can actually export wav file format tracks. Pg 348 of the pdf user manual describes the process to export both complete tracks and phrases to wav file which are then burned to blank CD-R. Once on a cd, they can easily be imported to pc/mac, as long as you have a burner, that is.

That is the most simple way I can think of that any VS user has (even if it's very slow) - too bad more of the VS machines didn't incorporate such methods to import and export tracks and then all of us wouldn't be having to jump through hoops all these years.

Thanks for the reply. Yesterday burnt a 2 track song to CD and imported into Logic. So that’s all good but the import was obviously a mixed song whereas I’ll have to have separate tracks to edit them individually. I wondered if I burnt 2 tracks to a CD one panned hard left and the other hard right maybe ?? Or will I need to burn a track at a time to disc then import each track into Logic and sync the tracks in Logic? I have the operators manual (like a telephone directory)😳 Roland did a few ‘quick guides’ which I’ve downloaded… they are great. Anyway thanks for your help.

TRACK EXPORT - LOOK IT UP.
NOT THE SAME AS AUDIO CD.

PDF manual is easy download from roland and easy to find export pages.

It's my understanding that exported tracks, v-tracks and WAV files will all be the entire length of the project. They can then be imported into the DAW at 00:00 and will line up nicely. You can pan them however you like inside the DAW.

It works this way on the VS2000 and 2480.

If you haven't tried REAPER, it's worth the effort as there is a program and procedure for importing a song from the VS backup CD-R into REAPER. REAPER is small, flexible and very user friendly.

When exporting to WAV, you'll select the appropriate tracks and v-tracks; they will then all burn to the same CD-R(if there's space, of course)
