I have a VS-2400 project backed up on CD that I want to recover on a PC. Anyone have any idea how to do this without the VS-2400? I've tried the usual WAV export tools and a PC doesn't even recognize the file structure on a backup CD.

If there isn't a solution, would anyone who still owns a 2400 be willing to help me out with recovering the project?

I don't personally own a 2400 or another model which "might" be able to import a 2400 project (if there is one, which I'm not sure there is). But I want to mention that (as you've discovered, I think) there are no windows or mac tools that can be used to export/import VS tracks onto a standard computer as wav files (or any other type), because the VS files are a proprietary format that only a VS recorder can use.

Aside from getting someone with a 2400 to help you grab and convert the tracks of your disc into wav files - which I think is your best bet - someone may also be able to help you who has one of the 2-3 third party tools made to work on windows only that can possibly read and export the 2400 format (these would be VSWE [vs wave export], CD2Roland [the cd "ripper"], or VirDIS [which contains both of the other tools]).

So, this may work in your favor and hopefully more than one person may be able to jump to your assistance. Good luck with it.

The problem is that the CD can only be read by a VS recorder. I have all of the third party tools but they only convert projects from a hard drive.

Okay, after a little more work, I realized that I wasn't using CD2Roland correctly. I followed the directions and was able to get the project loaded onto my PC and opened up in Reaper. I feel like an idiot but thanks for your help. It actually made me think I must have missed something so I dug a little deeper.

Oh, yeah - cd2roland was hard for me to get my head around when I only used it as a standalone dos program. It was easier for me to use through VSWE. Good to hear you got your goal and into Reaper!

Yep, now the only problem is that the lead vocal track, which is what I was hunting down, is actually missing from the original project! It never ends!

I hear that - I once discovered after recovering from a corrupted SONG, that the only track missing from a live concert I recorded happened to be one channel of the 2-mic piano track. This just happened to be the pianist/artist for whom I'd recorded the band's concert - so that was a pleasant experience, you can be sure...... maybe not so much......
