Although me and my chums had all grown out of being in bands etc by our 30s, we all still had a creative urge and so, circa 2014,about 6 of us decided to run a friendly competition to keep our ends in. We'd come up with a theme for a cover (usually an artist, or films in general or specifically, eg, Bond music etc), go orf on our own and choose a related song in secret, record it and then we'd all meet up for a drunken listening reveal party after a few weeks. As you can imagine, it was great fun. Here are two of my efforts, made with an 1880. The Boss's Streets O' Phili (film songs) and Space Oddity (obvs when Bowie was the theme). Did a bunch of others but these are the ones that stuck around.
Phili is a REAL Fender Rhodes I had at the time (miss it!), double bass, pedal steel guitar (also miss having!), ROMpler Hammond organ and fx guitars. 3 cellos were scored by mememe and played by my then girlfriend. As you cam hear, I cannae sing for toffee, but hey ho. A bit of clipping and some minor intonation issues but I'm, how shall we say, a "broad strokes" type of person, ha ha. Bowie is a different kettle of fish altogether. No singing on that one...just some "quality" voice acting, lolz. Anyone remember Star Trekkin' by The Firm? I think that seeped thru my subconscious memory for the end bit, roflz.
