I just got a VS-1824CD (finally). It's replacing a VS-880 that never had a working CD writer. So I know the basic concepts, but find the 1824 much more confusing. Anyway, been spending many hours working through the manual and forum posts here but have some questions.
I managed to record a song with five tracks. There was also a song from the previous owner. Just as a test of the equipment and to learn, I want to write a CD with two songs on it. I can't figure out exactly what I should do.
So far, I went into the Mastering Room twice, once for each song. I think I mixed the tracks for each down to the 17/18 v16 tracks (that took me a long time to understand the notation on the screen for that) and save the songs again.
So then the manual is very terse about what to do now. It says I need to import tracks. I made another new song, CD Test1. I got to the track import screen but I was guessing as where I should copy the master L/R pairs. Should I import song 1's L/R to track 1/2 and song 2's L/R to track 3/4? Or should I copy one of the songs to 17/18 v16 and then move it (if I can figure out how) to the right minute/second location for that song (i. e., string both songs together?) Would appreciate as much detailed guidance as possible.

I did figure how to do this last night. Short story for anyone seeing this later is below. If anyone has comments, corrections, questions, or shortcuts, please chime in. Not sure how many are use the VS-1824 these days. It's not the easiest thing to use, but I'm generally happy with it so far.
1) Record all the tracks for each song as separate songs.
2) For each song, go into the Mastering Room and master down to (usually) the 17/18 track pair, virtual track 16. This step is a whole exercise in itself. The manual is not friendly to first-timers here.
3) Make a new song. Call it something like CD1.
4) Import the two master tracks from what will be song #1 on the CD. So import 17 (v16) to track 1 (v1), and 18 (v16) to 2 (v1). I think you can do both tracks for a single song at one time. The interface for this step is a bit confusing but after reading the manual a couple time and a few failed attempts, I figured out how it work.
5) Now import the master tracks for song #2. Put them at tracks 3 and 4.
6) Use Track Move to put song #2 after song #1 ends. You need to move tracks 3/4 to 1/2, but also at the same time, move the start from 0:00 to a few seconds after song #1 ends. It helps to set some marker locations. You can press those buttons and then click NOW when you're setting START or END or whatever. This step could be divided into two track moves. One to do the second part (moving the start time of the recorded section of song #2), and a another step to do the first part above (moving 3/4 to 1/2). If you mess up this step, use UNDO (carefully) and try again. And be sure to leave at least 4 seconds between songs.
7) Repeat step 6 above for each addition song.
8) Mark the start of the second, third, etc. song with a TAP marker. Don't do this for the beginning of the first song. I can't remember if you should TAP closer to the end of the previous song or the start of the one you're marking. I sort of did it in the middle of the gap.
9) Save your CD song. Probably should do this once in a while above.
10) Go to the Mastering Room for the CD song. Write the CD. I did the Disc-at-Once option. I'm not sure if that's the best choice or not but it works. I didn't save a CD image since this was just a test CD.
I played the CD in a regular audio CD player (hooked up to my trusty old Pioneer amp) and I could play it and move to the next track as expected.
