That's because song import is the wrong function for what you want to do - the roland is looking for a song type that represents one you might import and then maybe convert to 1680 format.
What you want to do is to use song copy playable to copy a 1680 song from one partition to another on the same hd (or even from an external hd on the scsi buss, rather than import a song.
That's my best guess - hope it works for you.
