Hello to all, Error message: lack of cd memory. Seems pretty straightforward, BUT... I kept reducing the size of the "song" I'm attempting to write to CD and still get the error. The last attempt was 1 min 23secs, still get the error. Why wouldn't there be enough space on a standard CD ( 700MB/80min/52X). Not really sure if I'm interpreting the info on the display correctly. Does it matter that there are only 3mins and 53secs left on the hard drive? I tried calculating the MBs that would fit on a CD, but given the song length of the last try, I doubt that's the problem. The entire project is the contents of cassette tapes recorded into the VS, cataloged by song markers and locators, and mastered for fidelity.I separated the recording into 4 songs on 4 pairs of channels (7.1 8.1, 7.2 8.2, 7.3 8.3, 7.4 8.4) Each pair is to be written to a CD of its own. It may be interesting to note that no matter what pair I choose to use the display info is as follows: SNG 281 5MB 110 0MB 84 6MB Even the song that is 1min 23secs in length! So, what do you think ? Looking forward to your thoughts.

Does it matter that there are only 3mins and 53secs left on the hard drive? Yes.
Check the owner’s manual, „Creating an audio CD“.

Thanks for the reply... I'd like to mention here that there is no hurry for answers and I appreciate everyone's assistance. That being said I may need some clarification on a few things. First, I thought I was creating 4 separate songs to write by putting them on channels 7 and 8... So I am wrong, the song is always read in its entirety: 00.00.00 - 04.37.19. (In this case, I used the entire memory capacity). So I still need to create 4 or more individual songs out of this 4-hour recording. Any ideas as to how to achieve this? Some sort of creative backup. This is very interesting because I would've never expected a simple recording to be so difficult. I have recorded some very involved music with hundreds of V tracks and track bouncing... plus the mastering. Thanks again everyone, especially you gyorpb.

IIRC, the VS accesses every bit of hdd space, regardless of partition scheme when preparing to burn CD.
It is possible that your drive is too full. If “Optimization” is an option on your machine, that operation can free up some real estate, but, IIRC, changes to the song are somewhat limited post-optimization.
Perhaps deleting some no-longer-needed songs would provide the space required.

Thanks for reaching out, I've checked out your suggestions and reviewed the manual, but am still getting the error message. The display readout is confusing if I apply all the numbers I end up with a ridiculous number: 0Mb 205 9MB 84 6MB Which if I use as instructed in the manual example is 2059 MBs! That can't be right... Something is just not right here. I had hoped to record these tapes and enhance them, and set them all to tracks so they could be accessed randomly. Thanks again dkfackler

If you have limited space on your internal drive, you won't be able to create a CD... As gyorb said, as it says in the manual: "The VS first creates a CD-R image data file on the internal IDE hard disk, then writes the image data to the CD-R disc."

One way you can free up space on your internal hard drive, without sacrificing song data, would be to find/purchase an ide hard drive in an external scsi enclosure (or scsi hard drive/enclosure) that meets Roland's specs/requirements. You could then use the Song Copy Playable function to make copies of many of you current songs - then delete those songs from the internal drive (after first confirming that the copies were made properly and can be accessed on the scsi drive).
You could then make your audio cd project - note that the VS only uses the internal drive to create a cd image and this is why you would need to copy over some of your material to an external drive and then delete the original data from the internal drive first - convoluted, but works well.
The hard drives you require are becoming antiquated to the point of not being readily available, but they do pop up and there are still a few sellers that custom make them - I found this one on ebay today - https://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_from=R4...drive&_osacat=0
If you decide to look for something on the used market, or make your own, you might ask us here for some pointers and there are compatibility charts floating around here and elsewhere on line that will help guide you, so you don't buy something incompatible by accident.
