In backing up my data via cdr backup, the vs freezes up in the verify step. Not particularly at the same percentages each time - so not always the same spot. I start again and turn off verify option and it does successfully back up the data.
When I select CDRecover I see the files. I haven’t tried to upload them yet to confirm but my question is = what does the verify step do and do I need that? And why might it be freezing up?
I know the first statement would be do I have the most recent version of software? I may not but I’m nervous about trying that and losing a current project.
Im also using the 1x speed scsi CD burner. Any advice? Thanks -Billy

version 2.024 should be fine, if you have it or want to update to it. 2.5 was the final one and is essentially the same, with some enhancements for the 3-card fx.

I've never heard of anyone losing data doing an update - it's up to you though, whether or not to do so before having backed up everything. I suppose it might be safe to do 2 backups of whatever is most important first. But if you're having trouble backing up and can't try reloading a backup to confirm before deleting a project (to recover space for instance), you don't get much of a choice - that always suck and feels like a gamble...

I know - been there many times.

I think the verification process on the machine is a time waster and I've had verified projects fail to reload before, so I never use it.
My verification has always been to reload to confirm and then delete the copy to recover space.

No guarantee, but there's my slant on it.

You might give SCSI2SD some thought. I rarely use my VS CD drives any more. I've even successfully recorded directly to the SD. VSWE then makes the audio files usable by DAW of your choice.

There is a bit of configuration required, but it's a one-time thing.

Some cd burners don't work well with some blank cd brands. I also always burn DATA at 4x. With a Plextor stand alone 1210TSE external CD burner hooked to my 1680, I use the cheap printable CD's sold by Amazon and get good data and audio CD's every time.

Thanks. I will do the update soon. I did the cd backup without using the verification step. I then recovered the data off the cd onto another partition of my hard drive. It successfully loaded and I checked it. So that will be my procedure from now on.
