I have what appears to be an 880 (not the EX, but the V-Xpanded) in good working order, I have run the various diagnostic checks and everything passes.
I have attempted to record some tracks to test before I was going to give to a friend, but I can't ever get any signal input on the unit - my guess is I am missing something, but am not sure.
I watched the Roland "Turbo Start" video for the 880, set the display to "Post Fader", plugged in a signal source to either on of the RCAs or the 1/4 (not having both plugged in at the same time), and just never get any signal clipping at the Input Sens knobs or on the main screen...
I have taken the unit apart, and everything internally looks clean, no disconnected cable, no broken bits.
The caps don't look bulged (I realize that that is not definitive)...
Any thoughts would be appreciated. Thank you.
Or some kind of testing I could do with a multimeter...? I am not super experienced in bench testing, but I do have some gear.

I only have the EX, but I'm guessing it's probably the same procedure.

Are you increasing gain while in EDIT mode?

I have an EX also.

I do not know if the (non EX) 880 has the same overall controls, etc.

Can you try the following if possible?

1 - put the display into PRE-FADER mode
2 - turn the attenuation knob for input 1 fully counter-clockwise
3 - plug a source into the 1/4 inch input 1
4 - put the unit in the YELLOW input mode
5 - set #1 fader to 0 db
6 - generate some signal on the instrument/mic/device plugged into input #1

Does anything show up in the display?

You can send me a PM anytime, and I usually check the forum many times per day

I am very surprised that you opened the unit up. It takes a while to learn how to use the
VS units and be comfortable with them, and some folks such as myself, are still using them.

Best Wishes... \:\)

Again not knowing how similar the operation is between the VS-880 and VS-880EX, I think
I neglected to mention the mode that the track is in may make a difference while monitoring
an input signal strength using the display.
