I am using Virdis to copy songs from my 1680 to 2480. However, I get a warning on the 2480 that my source drive (the 1680) is "Not VS2480 drive!" Anyone know how to copy between the 2 units?

I don't use the 2480, but in all my experiences with the VS, you must use Song Import to do what you want. See if the 2480 has this function and it should work like a charm. You will probably also have to unlock the imported song afterwards, if you intend to do anything other than simply play the tracks.

It's easy with every VS unit I've worked with.

Depends on the format: is it data, or an already a song in Redbook format that you can already play back on any CD player?

If you still want to tweak your 1680 mixes, it should have been saved as "data". A song recorded and mixed on a 1680 that appears as a L/R mixdown (two tracks) which may be played on any CD player cannot be tweaked anymore

If it's saved as data on the 1680, no problem. Just pop he data CD into your 2480 and retrieve it. Some of the FX or panning will not correspond anymore, but that's an easy fix

Not familiar with the Virdis, but it works well if the data is saved on a CD

the 2480 manual says that you can import songs/projects/data
from earlier VS machines including the 1680. i've done this many times. the easiest way to do this is to back up the song that
you want to transfer, and then use the recover function on the
2480 to import the song into the 2480. instructions on how to
do this are on page 108 of the 2480 owners manual.

(Note: this is based on the assumption that you are able
to back up the 1680 song(s) to CD)

transferring this way will keep all settings intact, including
effects.

hope this helps.

I suppose theses suggestions to use the song import function on VirDis backups, but which is generally performed on cd backups, will depend on whether or not VirDis backups from the 1680 machine can be accessed by the 2480 in the first place.

If a 1680 VirDis backup can't even be recognized in a way that the 2480 can load it in VirDis, then the import function will be of no use, whether the backup is being loaded from an hd, or cd.

I think your best bet will be to contact Bill Casey and ask if he can help you out. He used to have an ebay listing that you could use the "contact seller" link to send him a message. Or possibly there is an email link from the VirDis webpage that you could use, if you don't already have his contact info.

Easier in the short term and if your 1680 backups are on cd-r, would be to load them into the optical drive of the 2480 directly and perform the import that way.

Hope it works out for you, regardless.

When I switched from the 1680 to the 2480 (many moons ago) I used an external SCSI hard drive.

I can't remember if I copied the songs there or backed up. Not sure anymore. Sorry.
