My Play button is not functioning anymore. It was already difficult to have it working but today it does not work at all anymore. I already tried to blow into it a bit, wiggle, etc. but it does not do anything.
I was wondering how difficult it is to get access to the button. Is there a manual to open it up nicely? Should be here somewhere but I cannot find it. And what to do yo clean it up? I have some contact cleaner here, I was thinking to use that.

Some extra info: The play button also has a different feel compared to the others, it does not have a clicking feeling. Just a loose plastic button.

Update:
I now put vacuum on the button and the front plate plastic came loose but that makes that I have sort of access on the front. Any idea how to detach the button to see whats underneath?

if worse comes to worse, at least you can use your mouse
to control your transport functions(play,stop,forward,
reverse,etc.).

I have a new update. I detached the button and found that the rubber spring part was squashed. Are there any spare parts for that? Or should I try to make something myself? The button still functions in terms of that if I touch the two connections, it goes PLAY.

I now fiddled something of another rubber component and I works fine. However, the feel is not completely the same as the other buttons. Please let me know if you guys know anything about buying such a spare part.

Those switches are Alps SKE-CAF. Obsolete, but the modern equivalent is the Alps SKE-GAC-A010. Readily available. The switches themselves aren‘t user servicable, meaning there are no parts. You unsolder the old switch, and solder in the new one. Then press on the button cap.

A quick and simple workaround is to use a PS/2(or USB with PS/2 adapter) keyboard. The spacebar is or can be configured to function as Play/Stop.

Yes I did solve it.
A bit difficult to explain, but as I mentioned, I opened up the button and found a rubber spring like thing which has a conductive part touching the two connectors when pushed. I could recreate this out of an old keyboard which also had similar rubber springs.
It was quite a hustle but it is now functioning just as it should and also the feel of the button is similar as the others ;-).
