I’ve been struggling with converting my VS fleet to SSD. The 880 now runs SD card storage, the 2000 has a 120g Kingston SSD , but the 2480s are fighting me.
I’ve used the adapter referred by Ian Canefire— it works in the 2000; it might be working in the 2480HD.
The Kingston drive is not recognized by the 2480; another 120g unit, Patriot brand will format, but is not usable. Changing partitions produce Operation Failed. Oddly, with the Patriot, the machine will record, but the STOP button does nothing. It’s not able to save recorded material.
Putting the Seagate HDD back in restores all normal functions.
To anyone who has performed this conversion successfully, would you be so kind as to list the adapter/SSD components used?
Thanks in advance,
dk

This is an old post of what worked for me in my 2480HD Installed a "New" Seagate HD a few months ago. It started making funny noises so I expected it to fail soon and it did. That was the fifth HD I have used in the last 20 years. I ordered another "new" HD and then decided to try all the SATA/PATA to SSD cards and adaptors that never worked with my VS2480HD. After trying all ten of the adaptors and cards I finally found a combo that works! The SD card is only 16GB but that's plenty. Limited space on the card means I'll have to be more responsible in backing up data. I love the SD card. Everything works perfectly. The adaptor is a STARTECH IDE2CF with the power cable. The SD card is a SanDisk Ultra CompactFlash 30MB/s.

Hey man, how have you been?
Haven't chatted with you in quite some time.
If I had details to THIS specific mod, I would have been more than willing to share them with you and the rest of the VS-Planet brethren.
Sorry.

The adaptor is a STARTECH IDE2CF with the power cable. The SD card is a SanDisk Ultra CompactFlash 30MB/s.
So, Zoomie--
I have the Startech bit; I assume you had to find your own Molex power cable(I had one). I would like some clarification, however. Is your card an SD card and a CF--> SD adapter or is it a CF card?

Latest chapter:
Based on an eBay seller's image, I ordered a JP103-5 IDE----> SATA adapter, only to receive a board which looks very similar, but carries the designation VER:MO3C. So my previous claim of using Canefire's adapter was erroneous.
I decided to try it out; results below:
2480HD:
MO3C adapter, Patriot 120g SSD
SSD formatted and would record to proj001, but STOP button was ignored.
MOC3 with Kingston 120g SSD. Machine hung at 'Initializing' screen and would not advance to "no drives found".
MOC3 and Samsung EVO 860 250g SSD. Same results as Kingston
Startech(IDE2SD2) IDE--->CF adapter. No joy. Same as Kingston.
VS2000CD:
MO3C adapter, Patriot 120g SSD:
Hung just past splash screen. Neither SSD nor CD drives initialize.
MOC3, Kingston and Samsung SSD:
Both drives work(format, record, play, select song, create new song, change partitions, etc.), although on restart(and cold start) it takes several pokes of the ENTER(no drives found) button before the drive is recognized and the last-used project is loaded.
Re ZoomDuck's Startech/CF solution: the only CF I have is a SanDisk 512MB card from an old camera. It worked flawlessly, but being so small it filled rapidly. With a 64g card this would be workable. CF card survives warm/cold restarts. The Startech with CF---->SD adapter does not work— well, it almost works. SD card formats and all record/play and housekeeping operations are good—BUT— the SD does not survive warm or cold restarts. Several brands of SD cards and CF—>SD adapters all fail the restart.
VS2480CD(with DVD mod):
MOC3 and Samsung work! No issues so far.
Patriot and Kingston drives did not work.
Startech didn't work.
FYI, the MOC3 adapter allowed SATA(Maxtor, Seagate, Hitachi) HDDs to work. Even a 20g Western Digital(no jumper) worked.
I have three JP103-5 adapters on order from a seller who actually looked to verify the part number.
Will keep updating.

So— the three “JP103-5” boards are delivered and are ALL MOC3– not JP103-5, so as far as this seller:”the truth was not in him”. Additionally, they all work differently; one shows IDE NG, one says IDE OK, then hangs; don’t remember what the third one did. All were tried with Samsung, Patriot and Kingston SSD as well as adapters for CF and SD. Quality control is a myth.

He uses SD card as internal drive.
We are still using a external HD in our PC -- with the VIR DIS system --by-passing the internal drive ---
