I have three VS-2000CDs and two of them have a bad fader number one. I have switched out parts successfully to optimize all other issues. My question: Can I access my "parts 2000" and replace some faders in my good units? I've only seen a photo of a 1680 "fader board" and it looks like it's "all or nothing" situation. Furthermore, I think I have identified a weakness in the 2000's. Number one fader seems to be a problem with a lot of units. There's more to that problem I won't explain here initially, but would love some input on IF and HOW I can switch out some faders. So far I've only got in as far as switching out hard drives, switching out LCD screens, installing the video cards, installing the VS8F-3 expansion cards and VS8F-2 cards. Little scary thinking about getting to the fader section. Please advise as I'm an old user that has made up my made to go big time on the old VS2000CD units. I'm loving it, but could use this forum to get back up to speed. Please advise.

It‘s always fader 1, input 1, etc., that‘s worn out. Simply because it gets used the most. Because every quick start manual opens with, „plug a microphone into input 1 and turn up fader 1“. And people keep doing that, for the rest of their careers.

gyorpb: Thanks for the reply. My first reply after finally registering successfully. Interesting perspective and I have no doubts it has merit. Thanks.
Do you know anything about replacing faders from a "parts" Vs2000CD? If so, THAT would really interest me. -Furry-

How do you mean? You desolder them out of one unit, then put them in the other.

I've swapped these in a VS880. The 2000 disassembly is a bit more involved, but it is certainly doable. These are 60mm faders which can be had as cheaply as $1.00 each. It's probably prudent to spend a bit more; IIRC, mine were around $3, but it's been a few years.

You already have used faders in this unit. Why replace them with more used faders? They are a wear component, after all. While the beast is taken 'to bits', consider replacing all of the faders.

Just my $.02

DK: Just getting back to you. OK so where would I buy some faders for my VS2000? I get your point about installing old ones. I'll deal with learning how to access the faders when I have a source for NEW faders. Please advise. This makes me hopeful. -Furry-

Having NOT been so deep into my 2000s to actually access the faders ... I have no experience nor am familiar with what I might find. Saw a 1680 board with faders, but didn't learn anything conclusive about it. Are the faders actually soldered to the circuit board or are they pluggable? Soldered someone said. There's different issues between the physical fader and the one on screen. When my #1 fader stopped working there was a felt pad of sorts that came out. I actually tried to clean it out, but that might not have been good idea. Any suggestions would be appreciated. -Furry-

They are soldered, but simple to swap. The hard part is the disassembly to access the fader board and keeping track of all the screws. Go slowly, label plugs and sockets with tape and take lots of pictures.
