So, you find somebody that has a VS machine that can load the dat tape backups. Then save the imported dat backups (if they need to be imported (say, an 880 dat backup recovered to an 1880) to a cd-r backup. The cd-r backup can then be loaded and imported to the 2480 and edited as a 2480 project.

The 2480 can't read dat backups?? That's unfortunate that it isn't that backward compatible.

I know the 880 has to have 2 different versions of the os - one for dat and another for cd-r, but the 1680 and 1880, i thought, can read the dat backup and/or cd-r backup without changing the os version - It's been such a long time - I'm not certain anymore.

I still have both 880 and 1680, if that helps.....

Thanks UPTILDAWN -- really don't want to find a 1680 --- and then remember how to operate those machines Too use to the big screen and a mouse --spoiled with the VGA & how to run the newer VS machine ...

I was pretty good on the 880/1680 but that was nearly 25 years ago..
