I just saw on Facebook that Dan died tonight in a motorcycle accident near Joshua tree removed. Such a beautiful guy, such a huge talent. We only worked on one song together, but we always meant to do more.
He came down and hung out with me here in Mexico, Eddie would join the benefit concert for a local kid who lost his saxophone. He sang as he always did, clear as a bell and filled with feeling.
Just came across the saddest possible news online that my great friend Danny Ray Barnes died yesterday in a motorcycle accident. I've known him for years now, and the first 5 or so of them we mutually hated each other, he was one of the owners who banned me from VS Planet. However we met again and clicked here on facebook like nobody's business. I admired the man so much, listened to many of his online concerts. He covered my song Kavanaugh at one of those concerts and also at my request covered the Lennon song God so perfectly it was better than Lennon's version himself. He was supportive of my music in places where that's not an easy thing to be. Most of all I loved his free spirit, loved reading his adventures here so much I recently told him I wanted to be him. I shared more of his sunrise pictures than I can count and used them as my desktop wallpaper shamelessly. I loved his sense of humor and feel very lucky to have known him. RIP Danny, I'm sure wherever you are now the trails are wider and more scenic, with great big cactuses all over the place, and you'll be blazin them til the end of time. 😢😢

OMG, that is just terrible news. What a sweet, talented guy, who was friend to everybody, and I so enjoyed listening to his music and his stories, and will miss him very much.

I am utterly shocked. Just an incredibly talented dude. We traded motorcycle notes in recent years as he became interested in dual sport bikes (I own two). Horrified to hear that riding was the cause.
This is really difficult to accept. I had planned to go see him play in Joshua Tree, have a hang. He came to one of my house concerts here. Just a sweet, nice talented guy who had found a good life place up there in the high desert playing and riding his motorcycles. We’ve lost a great soul … RIP

Wow such sad news. RIP Danny Ray! When it rains it pours they say. One of my longest and best friends went missing last July. Some hikers found his remains on Sunday.
