Like others, I'm trying to get my collections of recordings from the last 20 years off of the 2480 into wave files on my PC.

I'm using Virdis and attempting to use VS Wave Export. So far the only way I have gotten VS Wave Export to work is to "copy" the files from the 2480 project list menu onto the Virdis Hard Drive image. This copy works great cause I can reload it in the 2480 and everything comes back as expected.

The problem:
On the first song that I tried to convert with VS Wave Export, I drag the Virdis .hdd file onto VS Wave Export, select all tracks, and export to my PC. Virdis goes through the conversion process and creates wave files. But, I see the following problems with the files.

1) The file names dont match the track content. Track 3 has Track 2's audio. It happens the same way ever time, but its not just skipping tracks cause some tracks seem to line up with the right filename.

2) The files length seems to be tied to the filename. So, on tracks that are short, the resulting swapped audio gets truncated to some arbitrary length. i.e. a track that should be 3 minutes long gets truncated to 1 minute and change. Like I said, it may be tied to the length of the track that belongs to the filename.

I thought it was because I was running on Windows 10, but I tried it on another computer running windows 7 and the same thing happened.

Anyone seen this before?

Thanks,
Scott...

My memory of this is probably pretty rusty, but it sounds to me that you're accidentally overwriting one set of converted files with another.

When converting multiple songs/projects into a common main folder,
it's critically important that after converting one SONG/Project that you rename the folder containing that set of wav files. I always just rename the folder with the name of the song. In the case of a song/project with a generic title - Song 1, for instance - I would give the folder a unique name instead.

VSWE will not distinguish songs from one another otherwise and will overwrite any files in a common folder that have the same generic track name - How many people ever took the time to give each track in each song/project a unique name? The VS never did - that's for sure.

So, in the case of a 1680 song, for instance, all songs are bound to have a track named "TAKE1.VR6", or something. The next song converted into the same common folder that also has a tracked named "TAKE1.VR6" will override the old "TAKE1.VR6" file - and do so without asking, or giving the slightest hint that something is wrong.

I hope you can see the problem here and find it a helpful suggestion for fixing the problem. You're likely to need to start fresh.

Thanks for replying. This happened with a completely empty directory.

I see - I missed that part - oops!

Have you tried exporting a single track at a time, instead of selecting all tracks, just to see if you can get this one song extracted properly?
It may work, or may point you toward a solution.

It's been ages since I've extracted any of my own VirDIS hdd.
And I'm unfamiliar with the differences that must exist between 2480 and 1680 project files. But I recall having occasional issues with file corruption.

You might try optimizing that particular song on the 2480 (or better yet - a copy of the original), if you haven't already and maybe even putting it into its own VirDIS image. Then see if it exports to wav files properly.

Use the Rolands track export and also the ISO (track export/WAV import to do this.
