All the way through the conversion process, and my wav files are at double speed. This would be really good for the Chipmunks group, but for me , not so much.

I've had this occur before, and I'm not exactly sure what I am doing wrong. I have an old Windows XP that I have saved just for the purpose of these conversions.

I have the prepared documents that are posted here on how to do the conversion. I will admit I did not follow them this time, because I remember the process.

Any thoughts would be appeciated, especially from those guys that wrote the code and the RIP Bat file.

I believe that if you had modified the playback speed of your project(s) inside of the VS, which changes the sample rate from the SONG default (44.1k, 48k, etc), for whatever reason you may have needed to at the time, then those changes will not be applied to the converted wav files. This would cause the speed to be off..... but it's hard to imagine it could be that far off.

The only way I could see a doubling of the speed (and pitch) would be if the sample rate had changed by double/half - I don't see what else could cause the actual converted files to be wrongly stamped.......

What sample rate is displayed for the converted wav files, if you open them in a daw, or can read their properties from right-clicking a file?

Thanks uptildawn. the sample rate on the VS1680 is: 44.1k. I am not able to find the sample rate on my Windows 10 computer, in Reaper, or by right clicking the raw converted files in Windows 10.

Like I said, I have had this issue before, but the last few I did not have the issue. We have guests in for 3 days and I won't be able to spend the time doing that.

Will re-check and re-do. This time I will use all the paper work that FunkyBeat created and I previously downloaded, and move step by step through the process. Bear (VS Planet handle) or real name Don Spiers, I think walked me through the original process. It worked perfectly for many years.

It may be just something simple. Will reburn a CDR back up disk from the VS1680 to the Plextor and try again after the holiday.

FYI, I use a Plextor CD burner and it has SCSI ports and I burn the CDR b/u disc on that, then move then load that disc to the CD tray in the Windows XP computer. Then click on the .bat conversion file and it goes through it's motions. Then render those batch files in Reaper, on that XP computer --- they should covert to wav. Could be, my Render info screen was not filled out correctly. I am pretty sure it was, but I will double check it.

Well, the process all sounds right to me....

When you get back to things, you should be able to check the sample rate of a given wav file in Reaper by right-clicking the region on a track and choose "Source Properties" from the menu.

Also, double check your Reaper project setting to be sure the sample rate of the project is right and also check the settings for your soundcard - I suppose you might be using the built-in sound, if on a laptop? If so, check the sample rate in Windows properties.... I don't recall if Win XP is different than Win 7, but I would go to Control Panel - choose Sound - then highlight your Speakers, choose Properties, then the Advanced Tab to see the sample rate.

At the least, Windows Sound (or your interface) sample rate must be the same as Reaper's. If Reaper can do realtime sample rate conversion on playback, then even if your wav file/track isn't the same, it should sound okay. But if Reaper isn't doing realtime sample rate playback conversion, then your wav file sample rate must be the same as Reaper's and Windows/your interface, or you will get some weirdness, whether faster, or slower.

I would think that Reaper would complain if there's a mismatch between itself and your soundcard.......

OH - and any external hardware you have connected must also have the same sample rate set as Reaper (and Windows/interface). So be sure to consider that possibility too.

Success!! The problem was on the old Windows XP computer that I am using for the wav file conversion. I re-read all FunkyBeat's instructions and here is what was wrong:

"reaper_vs.dll" file, was not in the
"C:\Program Files/Reaper/Plugins" folder.

I have no idea how that dll file got moved. Works just fine now. Thank you so much for answering my thread and offering suggestions.

I'm so glad you got it figured out!
(although I don't get why the speed/pitch would double, because the reaper .dll was not in the plugins folder - that's strange to me).

Anyway - Merry Christmas - right?
You'll be having a Happy New Year, for sure.
