Sketchy is an understatement. Was it $4.5 million? And he didn't notice? He's made millions, but it's not like he got that $700 million up front. It's deferred, and not even paid annually.
Regardless, it just shows the issue of betting in sports by those involved: athletes, managers/coaches, and especially refs/umps. It's too easy to have others place bets. You could have people anywhere doing it.
To me, there's no chance that Ohtani is completely innocent, but he'll likely walk away from this because he's too important to the interest in the game.
All I can say is: put Pete Rose in the HOF already.
