Hello friends, a couple of weeks ago I bought second hand a vs-2480cd with audio output failure (in theory everything was working properly just not giving audio output).
I bought it knowing that the failure could be due to the problem of the capacitors.
Well, I have just replaced all the capacitors of 100 micros of the main board, and I have observed that it takes a long time to start, I was already doing it before the recap, and when it does the menus on the screen take a long time to appear, when I press any button as "project" or "utility" takes about 20 - 30 seconds to react.
I have changed the hard disk for a new one thinking that this could be the problem, but it is still the same.
I would appreciate any advice that gives me a little light.
Thank you very much for your help.

I update info
I noticed that it was on version 2.504 so I updated to 2.505 but unfortunately it didn't help, it works as slow as a turtle
Just in case I tried again with a different hard drive and it didn't work either.

Any kind soul who can give me some advice?
I'm running out of ideas
Thanks in advance

mine takes about that long to boot, and always has...

however I don't have an explanation for slowness with other functions

any operation that changes partitions will also be somewhat slow

do you have experience with other VS-2480's ? just to compare ?

Unfortunately I don't have another unit to compare but something is wrong with it, not only is the startup but the operation is impossible, when I press any key it takes a long time to react, after a while the menus appear and slowly, the same when I press the exit key, the menu is not removed until after a while.
I have not been able to record anything either because, as I say, it is impossible to do anything.

However, when I formatted the hard disk and when I updated the firmware, how it do it without booting the system, I found the menus to be smooth.
It gives the feeling that it is a memory problem when loading the operating system, as if it was saturated.

Could it have something to do with the fact that there is no card installed?
that is, the slots for vsf8-2 or vsf8-3 are empty

possibly - it came from the factory with one VS8F-2 board installed

Bad news calypso...
I have installed the VS8F-2 board and unfortunately nothing has been solved, the system recognizes it, but the operation of the device is still impossible, I press any key and it takes an eternity to react.
I am super frustrated

The only other thing I can suggest is to check all the memory boards - make sure they are all present and seated correctly. Your description sounds like a deficiency of RAM.

I think the same, I have checked the board and compared it with the service manual and the rams are soldered on the board.
I think I can't do anything here, soldering seems impossible, the pins are tiny

Just chiming in— have you replaced the battery?

I skimmed the posts so far and see no mention of the battery. It’s certainly worth a try.

What hdd are you using? These beasts can be fussy— for example, Western Digital drives are not officially supported, but sometimes they’ll work.

Hi dkfachler, the battery is new and the Hdd´s i have tried are maxtor, samsung and western digital and all are recognized and all work the same.
After replacing the capacitors with conventional ones, now I am waiting to receive some exactly the same as the ones I had (smd) to see if I have more luck with these.

I have done a hardware test and everything is ok except DSP NET CHECKED = Fail, I have observed the DSP CHECKED bug, and when I do the dsp check, I get error code 111 in ic 51, ic52, ic53, ic56, ic57, ic58 and ic59

Hmm. Just shooting in the dark here, but the sequentially numbered IC failures may suggest a power-related issue.

Admittedly above my pay grade.
