IN SEARCH OF A COLLABORATOR.

This is regarding my Roland VS2000CD. I have a second unit I use for parts. Having said that:

I am putting together a WORKING METHODS user manual for people (meaning me, as well) that love these units but are doing the learn by Trial and Error method as well as using manuals, etc. It references from the perspective of the last system (2.005 and with a connected VGA monitor) Roland made for them. The optics are a bit hokey, being dated, but are MILES ahead of using a burnt out LCD screen. As you know, there IS no support from Roland on these units. SOME articles are buried deep on their site, though. I have an older cousin (83) who has a third unit that I've "swapped" some parts in for him, so I'm doing it in part for him, too. Thought I might upload it to the VS-Planet site when I'm happy with it. Using some screen shots of the VGA monitor taken with my iPhone in the presentation. A picture worth a thousand words, as they say. My point: In the introduction of this document titled "VS2000CD-TOILET READING" ... if any of you are of the mind, I would LOVE some proof reading it (as I continue building it or when I'm finished) and offer any changes or corrections. There are STILL things about the unit I am discovering and/or just plain not understanding. My past experience has been with the VS1680 (did my own album on it) and a VS1880 as well. Got busy on the road performing for the next 20 years, and in the meantime ROLAND bailed on these DAW's and the world went to PRO TOOLS on computers. Then I got a VS2000CD because my cousin did and wanted to revisit a working relationship with him from about 20 years ago. All in all it's a bit of a fools venture as it's old technology, but I am what I am and love this unit.

That's enough for now. I only lovingly call this work a "manual". It is more of just a straight forward approach in getting a signal recorded as well as addressing some inherent problems I've noticed with multiple units of these old machines. Thus: TOILET READING.

Might get into AUTOMIX, and other topics as I go. Looking forward to any of your responses.

Thank you.

I grappled with an 880EX and a 1680 some years ago, without much advancement, I have to admit. There was a sort of "plan" initially, but then ordinary life and gigging with a covers band got in the way.
They say madness is cyclical, so I eventually splashed out on a 2400 as well...even bought some CD guides rather than just the photostated manuals.
Then the "ordinary life" bit back, and the 880/1680/2400 and manuals gathered dust again.
Forced early-ish retirement changed the ordinary life pattern yet again, and rekindled the 2400 interest. Actually sat down one day, fully cabled up, all mentally set to record something basic...and then realised that I had no idea what to play! I was totally devoid of any ideas!
So yes, I will follow your toilet reading with interest, but have **** all to actually contribute!

Ha. Excellent response. Boy do I relate. Thanks for the response. I'll probably not bother you with stuff as you don't have a VS2000CD which is what I'm particularly working on. If you'd like I can send you a tad just to see what I'm doing. Old guy chasing old technology. Got all these instruments laying around with rusted strings on them, etc. I've decided to just indulge my engineering JONES on these older machines. I'm having fun, but just whodefockcares? Very few, probably. Really appreciate the comeback. -Furry-
