The Alexander Mountain Fire - @ 7 miles from our place, doubled in size overnight.

It's so dry (11% humidity) that everything on the ground is like tinder.

We should be OK but the folks in the foothills near here are already evacuated.

Wow. That's...almost close to where I am in an undisclosed location in a desert bunker north west by west of you. Hopefully the wind blows that stuff to Texas.

Stay safe.

No, thank you. We already have Saharan dust moving in.

almost 7000 acres w/ no containment.

the fire is currently in a sparsely populated area w/ limited access - basically the side of a mountain near the foothills.

no homes burned yet - no fatalities.

two more fires to the south started yesterday.

mid 90s, low, low humidity and 15-20 mph winds are forecast with very little chance of rain for the next week.

i get the feeling the folks managing the fire are expecting a weeks or months long slog with this one.

Wow, that's scary stuff. All the best pbrowne, sincerely.

There was a fire here last week about 0.7 miles away that burned down an apartment complex that was an entire block. But there was never a threat that it could reach us. It must be a terrible feeling.

Best to all in the area.

thx MG, yeah, it sucks - and in the 2 days since this fire started, three others have popped up to the south of us, one in Lyons CO, one outside Boulder CO and one near Denver.

it's the new normal out here - fire season is all year round.

over 8,000 acres but 5% containment. 24 buildings destroyed.

from my house it looks like a volcano spewing smoke and fire on the ridgeline.

maybe some rain in a week or so - wish vermont could send us some.

we used to live in Monument and were on pre-evac for the Black Forest and Waldo Canyon fires - the smoke filled the sky.

looks like we may have dodged a bullet w/ this fire - 32% containment - 9,600 acres burned - 25 buildings destroyed.

it could have been way worse. this is the third large fire our family has been lucky enough to avoid in the last 10 years.

firefighters are amazing.
