I'm not in the market to buy a 2480CD right now, but I am interested. The reason I didn't go down that road is I figured it would be harder to replace old faulty automated faders than standard types. Never really verified that opinion.

LET ME JUST SAY IT STRAIGHT OUT: Can some of you give me feedback on your experience with automated faders. A cool, desirable thing of course. Did they stand the test of time? How fast did they go bad? Anybody actually ever replace one or more of them? Lastly, is there a source for them?

Thanks to all for your input.

Mine are still working smoothly after 20 years.

I've put 100s of hours on my 2400 over the last 18 years, auto faders still working fine. I have never ever left the board uncovered when not in use. I simply cover it with a towel to keep the dust out, and I think that helps.

I've swapped the fader board on my main VS-2480CD (bought 2004)
twice due to a couple of "sluggish" faders ...... (approx. 10 year intervall)
One new board from Roland and one from "fleabay".
So now I have one spare fader board I can desolder one good fader at
the time from whenever the next fader starts to "fade away" ;\)

So to answer the OP's headline question : No, faders do not last .... (forever)

Cheers !
