I was never really a cat person, particularly. We had dogs while I was growing up, and in my 30s I had just the loveliest and dearest Springer Spaniel. After she got sick and I had to put her to sleep, I never had the heart to have another.
I was suffering a really serious depression from 2019 to 2021. The thing that brought me out of it was a feral cat we fostered. It was really hard at first. But little by little she started deciding I was ok. She took to following me around wherever I went. When I was working on music, she would curl up in one of my guitar cases or in among all my gear boxes and kept me company. She brought me out of myself and the two of us created this bond together which helped me recover. Then she got super sick super fast and she died. I was just so sad. But the fact that I felt so sad meant that I was feeling something again. She was , for me, a little miracle.
So in April, we met this big tuxedo fellow. Mrsflat decided I needed a study buddy, and he was it. And he might be the nicest guy I've ever met. I just love that cat. I brought him up to our house about six weeks ago, and I'm so looking forward to seeing him again. He has quite a personality, he is SUPER talky, very affectionate, and also pretty laid back. He might complain about things he doesn't like, but he doesn't really attack you like other cats I've known. He's about 13 lbs, kind of a big fella, but he's just so great.
Won't he be surprised when we get a dog. 😁
I'll try and get some pictures at some point.

We have had a household with one pet, a kitty, for around 25 years now. Oddly the last 4 cats we have had are black cats, one actually came in our bathroom window (cue the song) and we kept her. Most of our cats have not been of the lovey variety but more independent. Our current one follows my daughter all around the house.
In my youth we had both cats and dogs. My Aunt Ruth lived in a trailer on the estate and had at times 40 or so outdoor cats but she gave them all names, they went on for generations. Purrt was the matriarch and from her first litter she had Pooky and they both populated the property for many years thanks to a big mean old Tom named Henry. ha ha I have stories I could tell, one is quite the epic about a very unfortunately unlucky kitty we came to know as Troubles. That's both a funny and blackly sad tale with a very shitty ending.
Meanwhile our dogs were in the house, started with my first dog, a poodle/beagle named Susie. My next dog was a spitz named Snoopy and at the same time my mom had a chihuahua named Petula. Finally the last dog we had was a white poodle named Charlie, my mom really loved Charlie and so did my nephew Robin who would take Charlie up in his room and get him high. heh Unfortunately all the dogs got let out regularly to roam and some of the saddest moments of my childhood were finding Susie and Snoopy and Petula dead on the road, run over by cars.

Cats are the best. I feel like they’re are more empathetic. Dogs want to please you, but seem to have no idea what you need. Don’t get me wrong, they’re both sweet and loving in their own ways. But, I’ve always been a “cat guy”.

Cats are unique, weird, aloof, often difficult to understand. I love them. Three distinct personalities in our house currently. All of our cats have been rescues or adoptions

The last few generations of cats in our household have been female litter mates. We get them spayed as soon as practical and they are never alone. When they have each other they seem more content and they don't have a problem with us going on a trip as long as they have fresh water and plenty of food.......and a clean litterbox.
Cats are a good pet choice for our lifestyle.

Aw! Cats are schizophrenic benings! We had 3 when I was in my 20's and never 'connected' with them. My Daughter has 2, She and them still live with us, LUNA a small black 14 y/o female and ARCHER is a big stocky male 4 y/o brown fluffy thing. ARCHER is just a big chilled lump but LUNA is an old and very schizophrenic bipolar lady . I never walk past them without making eye contact and saying hello.
I never thought I would feel affection for cats but I have grown to appreciate their company and really feel a mutual 'love' - I know!! But it's a "vibe of a being" that's hard to explain!
Two little animal beings wander about my house every day with their own routines and characteristics/personalities which takes years to understand and respond to as a human. But a real 'relationship' is there, no denying, I never thought I would say that about Cats.

I’ve been giving money to different local animal rescue organizations for years. Now I’m putting everything into this one animal sanctuary spearheaded by an amazing and compulsive woman with a board of directors. Over the years they’ve rescued thousands—dogs, cats, horses, birds and tortoises.

I love all animals. But my wife is terribly allergic to cats, and afraid of dogs. She says I can have a dog as long as it lives outside. I won’t go for that. A pet is part of your family, and lives in the house with you. Our kid had a pet rabbit for about 10 years, and she was OK with him living in the house, despite his fur getting everywhere. He went blind from cataracts, but still seemed to be enjoying life. But he started getting weaker and weaker, and when he could no longer get around I had to take him to the vet to be put to sleep. That was a very sad day.

It is extremely difficult to domesticate a feral cat. That you were able to do it means that you are quite extraordinary.

Lucky you. Tuxedo cats are great.

I have allergies -- my eyes just weep all day -- especially holding my cat -- but ya love your pets
We had two with heavy back surgery and had to adapt to riding around with their wheels in the neighborhood ...
