have you noticed that only about 1 out of 10 "viewers" care to reply to a thread?

Is this because they have nothing to add? Or because they have been attacked and ridiculed too often?

This reminds me of an interesting phenomenon I noticed happens on threads where I'm asking people to listen to one of my new songs.
The views of the thread always go up very quickly, and sometimes full days pass where no one comments at all. Then I have viewed YouTube analytics and I saw a whole bunch of song views originated at VS Planet.

I generally only reply if I have something positive to say or if I feel like I can add something, answer a question, etc.

I guess it's wrong for me to look for good conversations here, online. Or anyone's essays on what they've learned in their hallowed lives about singing, or songwriting, or producing, or guitar playing, or being a front man, or leading a band, or how to play keys in a guitar band. These are all topics I'd like to know more about.
But I guess no one else is coming here for things like that. I probably need to get over my phobia and disdain with the telephone, that began as a child when my mother used to beat me over the head with the telephone whenever I interrupted her 45-minute gossip-fests.
But I communicate more effectively in writing. Writing forces me to think more deeply on the subject. I call myself Deeper because in everything I do, I try to go deeper. I try to learn more. I try to do it better each time. I try to dig deeper into the truth. The name my mother and father assigned me does not resonate with me. Deeper isn't my UserName. Deeper is my soul name.
Writing allows me to edit. I can delete the stupid shit that sometimes comes out of my mouth! Stuff that blurts out in eye-to-eye conversation and inadvertently hurts people.
When that happens, that's not the real me speaking. That's the reptile brain after being emotionally triggered. That's not me, it's voices in my head, echoes handed down from my parents and their parents.
I inherited bad thinking habits -- family traits -- that I have been seeking to eradicate ever since I became aware of them. But they're still there, and I will always be a flawed human being. When I write something, I can edit out where it's Mom or my grandfather speaking, not me.
Writing forces me to think more deeply, and in trying to explain stuff, I end up teaching myself things I didn't know I knew.
I feel like I don't have long for this earth, and I want to share things I've learned, and continue learning more.

Yeah, Tim, writing a good headline is an art in itself. I have seen some good threads flounder because the headline was weak.
Isn't that like Song Titles? A great song title can reel you in.

This is because there is a lot of “mama’s rule” here.
There’s an upside and a downside to that. Most want to find something nice to say….and do. When there’s something they feel negatively about, particularly if they don’t have a suggestion to fix that…they clam up.
Praise feels good giving and receiving. When it’s not? It’s hard to deal out. I stick to sonic stuff mostly, because it transcends the subjective. Which is to say while it’s not “objective singular truth”….there are qualities and ranges of good sound that transcend whatever your artistic statement is….

Yes,Deeper. A good song title will get a good listening chance.
Don't feel bad if folks don't reply to a thread. Even when this place was more popular, it was the same way.
I like your threads. Yeah, a lot of times in has been a rehash, because most of us regulars have been her 20 to 25 years.

i click in threads, and if i don't have anything relevant to contribute, then i don't.

I think it's fine to come here to talk about whatever you'd like to talk about. I was just explaining why I don't post much. I think I may be a bit younger than most people here as well (49.) I have been a member here since the original version of the VS Planet under a different name, but I think I've always kind of been a bit of an outsider...mostly due to an age difference. People here are generally helpful and supportive.

I will say this... When I post an MP3 link to say Soundcloud it says that the thread has been viewed say 60 times. But when I go to My SoundCloud page it says it's been played 3 times.
Kinda makes you lose faith.
Why post a link to your music if no-one takes the time to even give it a spin.
I always listen to posted music here.

A good song title will get a good listening chance.
In the old days, when a music publisher came to work and had 50-100 cassettes sitting on his desk that day, each with a song submitted by a different songwriter, he didn't have time to listen to all of them.
First thing he'd do would be discard all the ones that LOOKED amateur because of their crappy, sloppy unprofessional submission. Second thing he'd do would be look for songs by songwriters whose name he recognized, because they had a much greater chance of not wasting his time.
Next, from the unknowns, he would pick out the songs with the most interesting titles. A title like "You're the Reason Our Kids Are Ugly" or "There Stands The Glass" or "Friends in Low Places" got listened to long before one of a zillion songs named "I Need You" or "I Love You" or some girl's name.
Publishers don't have duffle bags full of cassettes delivered to their door any more, but I bet it works the same way when they have to choose from a list of MPG3 song submissions to download from the internet.
If you perform your own songs, then maybe you're not trying to lure in a publisher with a clever song title. But you still have to lure in listeners, and if they've never heard your music, a catchy song title might be just the thing that makes them click on your link. How else are we going to "sell" our song to them, before they've heard it?

I will say this... When I post an MP3 link to say Soundcloud it says that the thread has been viewed say 60 times. But when I go to My SoundCloud page it says it's been played 3 times. Kinda makes you lose faith.
Yeah, that's gotta hurt. I similarly lost faith about 5 years after moving to Nashville. Because I had 300 finished original songs in the drawer, and 20 of the songs were perfect for Randy Travis or perfect for Garth Brooks or perfect for George Strait or perfect for somebody else. (But I never could write for women...)
And because I didn't have any connections, I was never able to get music publishers to let me in and give my songs a listen. They wouldn't even listen to them. I still feel anger and pain about that. But they were just too busy, too overwhelmed by all the submissions they got, and they knew 99.9 percent of the folks like me, knocking at their door, were amateurs with a dream, who were totally clueless about how bad they were.
Oh, my peers went apeshit when I played my songs at Writer's Nights, but rarely do music publishers attend Writer's Nights because most of the vast majority of the writers there are sooo bad. And hanging in the bars every night was turning me into an alcoholic.
So after banging my head up against the door on Music Row for 5 years, I LOST FAITH. Why write any more songs, when nobody will listen to them! Shoved my music under the bed for 30 years, and got a new career. Oh, I got a 1680 when they came out and dallied with it in my spare time. Moved up to an Akai DPS. Never even tried to finish anything -- it was all about learning. But I didn't write any songs for 20 years! I only returned to seriously making music when the pandemic forced me to retire early from that career.
That's when I decided to 'get my guitar back out' and make an album. I no longer have the goal of trying to make a professional career out of my music. I don't have to prove myself to any music publisher. The goal was to prove to myself that I'm as good as I always believed I was, back in the day... not just another fool with a dream.
With the technology available today to finally record an album, I've succeeded in proving that to myself.
Why post a link to your music if no-one takes the time to even give it a spin. I always listen to posted music here.
I want to try to listen to everybody here, too. Give everyone a chance to show me what they're all about! But I reserve the right to not give them a second chance, if their first try fails to deliver.
And if the recording is crappy, I probably won't tell them I listened to their music. No reason to hurt any feelings, especially if I think my constructive criticism is likely to go right over their heads. I certainly don't want to dampen anyone's enthusiasm about their music.

Please explain this to me, Moontan. I'm kind of a computer moron. (When I bought this iMac, I had to call Popmann and ask him how to turn it on!)
I know what a bot is, but what would anybody gain by programming bots to come read our threads?
Are they spying on ulank? Recording his jokes to compile into a book to sell and make a quick fortune?

Hah! Reminds me of something I did when I was three... I pooped my pants... And mom blew up! Got in my face and yelled at me "Who did this?! Who DID this?!!"
My 3-year-old brain figured, If she's too dumb to figure it out, I'm gonna blame my baby sister. "Jeanie did it!"

Addressing the OP,
I don’t know everyone else’s free time so my thoughts from my perspective.
I like to come here during my unwind periods, generally morning or after work, perhaps in between on lunch or something. I like music threads, listen as much as possible, comment on nearly every song posted. I like music and recording related topics, some sports and gig stories. I rarely generate topics, don’t post songs often, maybe 2-3 per year. There’s way more in the song catalog but less is better than too many. I’m never posting demos or unfinished work. If history has shown that a frequent music poster’s output is consistent, be it good or not, I’ll often skip it or drop the needle on a minute or so. I can find things to like in every music posting but admit to missing some opportunities to state those.
I’ll add that I used to be more excited about finishing a song to share with the Planet folks here but in the past five’ish years many of the threads devolve into non-related negative territories….as evidenced above.
As far as your posts.. If you have Ten to Fifteen really long posts at the same time , I’ll scan but skip most. It’s just too much for my allotted participation time. It’s totally fine you want to empty out thoughts on these pages, but to be dissatisfied with read counts or comments has to be understood at some level. Editing can be a friend to readers. You’re not a Tourette’s poster with clickbait titles, polarizing claims or inane opinions posing as thoughtful thread catalysts. The flip side is a dozen multi-paragraph posts are too much for me to engage with.
