A ripe old age. Fine actor. Master songwriter. Wrote a few unforgettable classics. I only wish he'd written more of them.
I got to meet Johnny Cash, Chet Atkins, Danny Davis and a few others. Crystal Gayle, Donna Fargo, Ashley and Naomi (Diana) Judd, Ray Stevens. But I wish I could've sat down with Kris. He was the brainiest of the old Nashville songwriters. I bet he knew a lot of shit about everything.

He also rode Jerry Garcia's train with Janis.
I saw A Star Is Born in high school on 7 different dates with 7 different girls. Sang his part in Evergreen really well.
RIP

Never seemed to come across as taking himself too seriously. RIP

He could have been on the plane with Buddy Holly. But refused.. Think he was playing bass for him.
RIP.

A really fine song writer who couldn't sing and couldn't play.
Waylon Jennings was Holly's bass player.
I met Kris thanks to a good friend, Tim Krekel, who played w/ Billy Swan and Jimmy Buffet. Kris was very nice and very drunk and paid for our lunch which, at the time, was very much appreciated.

This hurts, in a respectful fellowship kind of way. Kristofferson's songs were some of the best performance experiences I've had.

Today's New York Times has a bunch of stories about Kristofferson, including about his courageous defense of Sinead O'Connor after she tore up a pix of the sex abuse pope on SNL.
I always liked his song, The Pilgrim.

"From the coal mines of Kentucky to the California sun"
That one line is a lesson in alliteration. If you want a master-class on how to write lyrics so they're just plain FUN to sing, study Me and Bobby McGee.

If mere words were all it took to get a woman to sleep with you, I can't think of a more convincing argument than this:
Take the ribbon from your hair Shake it loose and let it fall Layin' soft upon my skin Like the shadows on the wall Come and lay down by my side Till the early morning light All I'm taking is your time Help me make it through the night I don't care who's right or wrong I don't try to understand Let the devil take tomorrow Lord, tonight I need a friend Yesterday is dead and gone and tomorrow's out of sight And it's sad to be alone Help me make it through the night

Whenever I hear the Police, Every Breath You Take, I think of this song.
