Lies by The Knickerbockers - ya gotta know Tom Hanks et. al. ripped this song off for "That Thing You Do".

Oh, FTB, Ahab The Arab was a cool novelty tune but Ray Stevens is certainly not a one hit wonder. I especially like his tune "It's Me Again, Margaret".

STEVENS :: I use to watch his variety show back in my high school nights

Knickerbockers had a real decent hit, with that one !! Tough to go up against the Beatles and he did have a Lennon-style vocal take~~ on that song ...I think

i think this was the first tune that ever really kicked my
ass. the song itself ,their way cool look with the all black
outfits and all of them wearing just one black glove, and
not to mention that groovy fuzz guitar sound ! WAY ahead
of their time by all means. and last but not least, how
'bout the name of the band? The Music Machine.
how fuckin' cool can you get ?

Brandy is surely in my Top-Ten One Hit Wonders list. A beautiful story-song.

It's my sister's favorite song of all time, and she named her first dog Brandy. That dog became a family member that grew up with her two children, lived with them 14 years before it... shuffled off to Buffalo... Broke their hearts...

Just gave that a listen. Catchy hooks for sure! The beat seems very sympathetic to the melody. The chimey guitars win me over, too.

What I like most was the emotional charge of hearing the male voice break into falsetto. Similar thing happens in "She's So High," by Tal Bachman. That always gets me.

Hey, "She's So High" oughta be on this list of FAVE one hit wonders..!

I love all of those!

Midnight At The Oasis was perhaps the sexiest girl-song of its time.

Dancing in the Moonlight is so perfect in every way, I find it hard to fathom how they could have only one hit. What tripped them up? Drugs? Egos? Poor management?

Aw, don't blame Tom Hanks. It was Adam Schlesinger that swiped the chords from "Lies". I think he did a tremendous job coming up with the perfect theme song for that movie -- it's perfectly in sync with the era that the movie depicts, and perfectly in sync with the storyline.

"That Thing You Do" should be on this list of one hit wonders...

Just gave it a listen. That was rather catchy. At first I thought it was headed in the direction of "Land Down Under" by Men At Work. But it went darker...

So how did a Connecticut Yankee end up in Georgia? You doin' alright? You guys got whacked pretty damn hard by Helene, and now the toxic fumes spilled around Atlanta.

I looked them up, their followup to Dancin got to #91, their only other smidgeon of a known song.

they keep reuniting. The King Harvest album Old Friends was released on April 6, 2015.

The three surviving founding members released their new King Harvest single "Our Old Songs" on August 16, 2016.

I've always liked that "Life in a Northern Town" song by Dream Academy.

More recent ones, but I'm not sure if they qualify as one hit wonders. They all seem to have healthy careers, but I don't hear them on the radio:

"Cough Syrup" by Young the Giant. That's a cool song.
"Pedestrian at Best" Courtney Barnett
"Young Blood" by The Naked and Famous.
"Why Does it Always Rain on Me" Travis

I'd be interested in a "No Hit Wonders" list...great bands with no hit songs.

I have a friend who tried to get me to like Husker Du, but I just don't get it. My verdict was, "Husker Don't."

I can name a bunch, but I immediately thought of Buffalo Tom and Nada Surf, who still put out high quality records with essentially no mainstream radio play. I suppose that "Popular" was a minor hit for Nada Surf. There are alot of those bands out there...even bands like The Gaslight Anthem and Stars.

That would be a list that would take up about 174 internet pages. And I would feel compelled to add two of my longterm bands to the list, Brother's Keeper, and Johnny and the Earthlings.

Bus Stop
Look Through Any Window
I Can't Let Go
Jennifer Eccles
Carousel
Carrie Ann

I bet you'd like it!
