For the last three months, I’ve been getting to know a special friend. There was a lot of back-and-forth for a while because she wasn’t sure she was ready, but things seem pretty straight ahead and I couldn’t be happier.
We were talking the other day and she told me that her father, who I remind her of in someways, Used to say “I’m under new management!“ when he fell for his second wife.
So yesterday I wrote a little blues song. There are lots of in jokes between us in the lyrics. She hasn’t heard the song and she doesn’t know what it’s about. She has no idea that I’m going to perform it Wednesday night with a local band and even play lead guitar in public, for the first time… Ever. I can barely play right now because I’ve lost Most of my chops, but I can pull off two choruses in E. Hopefully.

The interview was brutal, I almost didn’t pass
Until she spent some time with me and saw that I had class
She picked up my contract, said it’s money well spent
And lo and behold
I’m under new management!
I’ve got no complaints about my working conditions
Got plenty of time to chase my other ambitions
Her books are in order, she runs a tight ship
And if anything goes wrong, she knows how to crack that whip
We work night and day because we’re so passionate
I’m proud to report I’m under new management!

Well, that was hysterical. Turns out the guitarist forgot to send my demo to the bass player, so he just followed me through the tune. The crowd really got the jokes but then I sent the video to Debra and she loved it. She’s got a bad cold and resting up for her big art show this Friday. We talked for about 35 minutes, she was filled with questions and praise. Mission accomplished.
