I made this recording to demo out a song I'd like to play with a couple friends coming Monday. It's the song I've rewritten several times and recorded several and mixed hundreds over the last couple years, but suddenly it's a very different song that I like.
But what I'm doing different is adding a room mic on everything. I didn't mix this at all, it's straight up no effects, but I like the dimensionality that comes from the extra mic. That's probably my new way.
I put the extra mic (another c414) on Omni about four feet away. Also my room has a couple 4x 8 sound panels now that flatten the sound but there is still some good reflection from cement floor
Yeah, I musta overloaded the near or the far C414 on that vocal, but I might keep it anyway. It has a lot of realness. Not sure. This was to demo out for the guys coming tomorrow, so I may do it live with them, but I like this demo and we may just add a little to this.
This song about stopped all my projects for a couple years. The song and I went through a lot of changes.
Hey Bear, I tried that micing technique. Way better than what I was doing. Same room sound, no phase issues. Very cool. Going to be standard technique around here now. Thanks.
