This is a brand new version of a song i've worked with off and on for a while, this is the best version yet.
tis the season! njoy!
LOVE IT!
Already downloaded as a Wav file. Some really nice instrumentation changes as well as vocal level changes in there.
This outstanding creation of yours (that never went to an album) was on my TOP TEN 'Bat's Brew' tunes, and STILL is, Rob.
I just love the creative guitar work that mimics the howling of the werewolf, and the vocals that you're pushing out in the upper register, with harmonies, and unexpected time changes, more predominant percussion that enters around 1:56:00 just drives a nail into the heart of this exceptionally dark rock tune.
Doesn't matter the time of year it plays...LOVE IT.

I want to let you know that your impecable productions on Studio One were the main selling point for me to go there. I thought, "If Gonzo gets that out of Studio One and says it's simple, then I could surely do what I need to do on it."
Anyway, your fantastic one man production is always pretty stunning. This one is really smoothed out on the ears. Your production is getting even better.

wow!
mark, thanks so much for being so supportive. actually bought the tune, nice! and i would have given it to you for free!! super nice, thanks.
i always upload 24 bit-48khz files to bandcamp, but honestly, i don't know what the downloads sound like, if they are not the exact same file. i know you can do wav, flac, or mp3. i'd love to hear the flac version...
you are ALMOST right, about this song never going to album...
i actually recorded this for, what i think, was the SECOND VS PLANET RECORDS compilation, so technically, it's on an album, albeit, one that no one else in the world will ever hear! LOL
which brings to mind the fact that i AM working on my new album now, and it will be different than all my other previous albums; they were all 'concept' albums, that followed a single thread, mostly.
this new one will be a collection of singles, and be called 'Singularity'.
maybe, i should add the Werewolf Song to the new album?
i'm super glad you dig this one so much, top 10? i've never thought about grading my tunes, i've got 5 albums worth at this point, and about 100 older demo's that i've never brought to light of day. i'm trying to be prolific, even while trying to take care of my wife during her breast cancer ordeal.
thanks again for being so supportive. it is appreciated.
recording this song: alot of the individual tracks date back almost 20 years, but the bass, rhythms guitars, drums, are all new.
all those screaming lead guitar lines, were the boogie recorded just about wide open, i think the neighborhood dogs were pretty upset! LOL

Bad ass on guitar steps into the room. Whoa.
HEY THANKS SO MUCH, TAO.
i appreciate the kind words.
i mean, working on S1, and saying "simple", is relevant to whatever you (I) were using before.
i went to Studio One from a solid understanding of Cakewalk Sonar, so those two dawa are not that different.
but S1 feels more intuitive to me, so yea, it is simpler.
i guess the mixes 'smoothing out', as you describe, is part me learning to mix, and part deciding what i like to hear, and being able to get there with the newer tools i'm using.
i've alwasy been trying to create a 'definitive sound', that goes along with my music and style of writing. i want someone to hear one of my songs and know who it is right away, that kind of thing.
it's a very hard thing to get to, on purpose. maybe i should just try by accident!! heheh
Wow. Love the vocals. And the dynamics. Just killer.
HEY THANKS ANDY!
glad you dig what i did with this.. the vocals are pretty pushed, not sure i could sing that today! LOL, throat feels a little older and dryer... in the mix, the dynamics are even more exaggerated, but once i master it, it does drive the dynamics down a bit, finding the sweet spot of what i'll accept with loss of dynamics in mastering, plus need for overall volume on the master, is tricky, i try it several different ways before i decide "that's it, that's as far as i can take it!"

Great as always, Rob!
BTW, I hope you don't mind, but we had the Bluetooth speaker out and playing this for the kids on Halloween.
Big props from both my daughter and her mom (who were Dorothy and the Wicked Witch) who both loved it! Like in the Big Lebowski, it "really tied the room together" with the Halloween props! It was seriously cool!
Thanks!

thanks mad! i sure don't mind if someone njoys sharing my stuff! share away... it's perfect for a scary night.
Good Stuff Gonz! I love its progression and those transitional textures! nuff said about you musical talents eh!
hey alan! thanks for listening to this, and yea, the changes thru the arrangement were finessed quite a bit to get it to this point. alot of experimenting, and then settling on the way the transitions should work, and then trying to capture it correctly!
this is most definitely a 'live in the studio' kind of thing, a lot of those sounds were just of the moment, i had no idea what some of the feedback tracks were going to be like until after the fact.
setting up the mesa boogie, and then finding the right volume (LOUD) and location to stand, letting the guitars do their own thing, it's kinda cool. very visceral, very of the moment.
i could not re-create most of that, or at least, it'd be hard, and it'd piss off the neighbors for sure!!
