When I CD on the external CD burner/player, it plays back about 1/2 step lower, and slower. The sample rate internally, in the 2480, is still 44.1 and the Vari pitch is off. I don't think there is anything else that could affect this. Is the burner going bad? Can I burn to a PC? I can probably export the mastered paired wave files. Haven't tried that yet. Any suggestions?

Could it be terminator related?
The last (or only) external device must be terminated.
Some devices have their own built-in, sometimes switchable externally (or internally, if memory serves). Otherwise, an external terminator block (passive works fine) must be added to the second pin connector on the device.

Only other thing that comes to mind is that the disc you're playing (assuming just this one disc) was somehow burned from files that were rendered from a session set at the higher sample rate (48k, likely)... seems like the slowness/pitch would have been obvious long before tracks were burned to a cd, though.

I have always used the 44.1 (MTP?) set up for all my recordings. I have burned to this same device hundreds of times. But I had to relocate my studio (it's always been at my church and we moved). Since moving, I have done very little recording, but the last several times I have had this same result. Slow playback. I think it even plays back slow on the CD burner itself.
This isn't the only thing that hasn't been working well. This unit is more than 25 years old. I did have to replace the first CD burner I had, this one may be 15 years old.

I'm not sure I follow the "terminated" line of thought. I've never had to do that before.

The difference in pitch between 44.1 and 48k, when played at the wrong sample rate is about a half-step.

Considering that you've never experienced this problem before, with the same gear, would make me think that my suggestion doesn't apply, anyway. Unless something didn't get reconnected properly after relocating.... If you don't know what a terminator block is, or looks like and you don't have any "spare parts" since relocating, then I'm guessing you needn't worry about that.

This is certainly a good way to check if the problem is a sample rate one - Compare the pitch of the original and the wrong one. If there's about a half step (semitone) difference, then I'd say something's amiss with mismatched sample rates..... What exactly, I'm not sure.
