Hi,
For reducing noise I was trying to install an SSD into my VS-2480. It all really did not work out. Now I went with a SCSI2SD chip that I can connect externally and that simulates SCSI devices. I have it working now. I have the ZuluSCSI V6.4 of Rabbit Hole Computing. I figured some things out:
- If you make a SCSI hard disk section on the ZuluSCSI bigger than ~ 11 GB, it will be not recognized. - The SCSI can be used independently from the IDE, but it is a bit figuring out how to deconnect the IDE. I sometimes lose connection to the SCSI if I do a wrong order of connecting the IDE or if I shut down the VS2480 while using the SCSI and then rebooting with the IDE.
My last thing I want to have is that I can extract wav files of it. I tried to configure a hard disk and a CD-rom, and the VS2480 recognizes both but when I want to write on the CD-rom, I get a notification “No CD-R Drive!”. Any tips on how to configure it properly? Are there people with experiences with the ZuluSCSI V6.4 . I See some use the ZuluSCSI RP2040, and have luck with that, but I have noticed that the V6.4 works a bit differently. Hope to hear about some experiences.
Kind regards, Wessel (WizzleWessel)

Just noting that you said "CD-rom". A CD-ROM drive can't WRITE, so make sure you're using the right type of drive. You may also need to consult one of the compatibility lists posted in these forums to be sure your drive should/could/might work with the 2480, since the VS has such picky tastes. The cd drive should be the final device (IIRC) and must be terminated - either with it's own internal setting (if it has it), or a terminator block on the second connector port (passive blocks work fine and are cheaper than active blocks).
Here's one thread with a list posted, as well as discussion about the Song Vault - a custom unit that worked well.

Hi uptildawn, thank you for your help. It is more that you program the ZuluSCSI as emulating a CD-rom (CR-RW) drive. I do have a CD writer which I can put instead of the ZuluSCSI. But that would mean I have to shift every project from the ZuluSCSI to the internal IDE, and then swap the ZuluSCSI for the CD writer, then write the CDs and then read those CDs on the computer.
I am hoping to circumvent this, by writing a "CD" onto the ZuluSCSI emulator CD drive, which you then can hook up to the computer.
I also see that there is software to extract VS files directly to the pc, but I have a Macbook. Maybe thrifting up an old PC somewhere is an other option.

I see and understand.... not much help though, since I've never gone the zulu route. Interesting - hope you can get something figured out.

Ok, I now have a slightly different set-up but it is working for what I need! I have:
The ZuluSCSI V6.4 of RabbitHoleComputing, with a SD card. The SD/Zulu is configured as a SCSI hard disk. With a SCSI cable I was able to daisy chain my SCSI CD player and the Zulu. So if I need to write CDs, I can. In the Vs-2480 I also have a IDE hard drive, which I can connect for backup my projects, and disconnect by sliding out the casing.
However, some things work a bit differently than expected: - When I want to connect the IDE hard disk, I first have to start the machine with only the IDE, so disconnecting the Zulu. Otherwise it is not recognized. Then I have to switch it off, connect he Zulu, and start it again.
- Copying the projects went all right for most of my projects. However, I had 1 project, when I copied that from my IDE to the Zulu, the Zulu could not load projects and save and was not functioning properly anymore. It was quite figuring out that it was this 1 project. i do not know why this project was interfering with the Zulu. Also, when I recovered that project from a back-up CD (which I luckily made), there was no problem whatsoever.
- Still the CD-rom emulation is not working and I just leave it that way. I had contact with the RabbitHole Computing and they say it is very difficult to emulate such hardware. I leave it that way.
- I have now a 64GB SD card but with a configuration of 10 GB Hard disk and I think I leave it that way. I think of getting an extra SD card instead of trying to broaden the emulating capacity.
If anyone is thinking about getting a ZuluSCSI V6.4, you can ask me how I am working with it. So, it is a bit of figuring out and hustling everything, but I have managed. Now lets do some recording and create some music.

Nevermind, it crashed again. ;-(
Edit: I probably formatted it incorrectly (should be exFAT or FAT32). I tried it again, lets see how it will be now
