Last year, I found a cheap aluminized travel case for my 880EX. People worked themselves up into quite a lather over the $15 cases when I reported finding them at Walmart. The cases quickly vanished from Walmart shelves around the country, never to be seen again.
Some people warned others not to even consider putting that +/- $1500 machine in a $15 case. I was quick to disregard their warnings and picked up about 6 of those rascals for my little road show.
Well, the case has resurfaced, this time at Home Depot, as a $20 WorkHorse brand. This time, it is being marketed as a technician's tool case, but with the proper foam padding, it should still house your expensive toys.
BTW, Lowes has a $25 TaskForce brand aluminum case that is a little sturdier with nicer fittings.
Caveat emptor (them's $10 words for buyer beware), I haven't measured either case to make sure they will still house the Rolands. And, of course, I will gladly accept no responsibility should the cheap case in any way be involved in terminal injury to your precious toys.
EDIT: I went back to Lowes. THE 880EX IS A HAIR TOO BIG TO FIT THE $25 TASKFORCE CASE., which has interior dimensions of 17-1/4" by 11-7/8".

I carry that type of case at work (almost).
They're like a little flight case. The ones we use at work are actual Platt brand tool cases.
Two small sheets of 3/4 inch foam rubber, and you're good to go.
I always notice whose tool cases are wearing out this time of year, so I can order them a new one before it wears completely out, and give them the new one for Christmas.
I have three such VS 840 cases now... __________ wawazzat? After four

Yeah, I can see where the 880EX would be too tight. The VS 840 is quite snug.

Bull, yes the Lowe's case is too small - I found that outa few months ago when I brought it home. It's a nice case for the money though. I was tempted to keep it anyway.
Thanks for the heads up on Home Depot - I'll definitely be checking that out. Dan.
