Is it possible to replace the zip drive on the br8 with a cf card? Anyone tried it?
I am not a br-8 users but was chatting with E Beau yesterday and mentioned the possibility so thought I check around.
I ordered the parts to do this for my 840 based on all the positive feedback in that forum. They all rave about it, pretty easy to do, its very quiet, 512 mb vs 100mb. I found this info on how to change the 100 with a 250 drive but I'm no computer guy so not sure if the cf card could just be substituted. drive replacement for zip 100 to 250
And heres the installation guide from the 840 users forum: cf insatlaltion for 840
Not sure how many folks would be interested but seemed worth checking into.

Do NOT use a 250 drive no matter what you do, especially if you like using the BR8 wave coverter it WILL NOT WORK. 256 CF cards are out as well. Don't know enuff about the BR8 to answer the CF question. Seems possible. Get out John444's install guide and make sure your inards use the same type of connection and mounting. John444 attempted a conversion on an 880 but could not get the CF adapter to install or function properly. Fried a couple of cards too. You should post your queries about this in the 840 forum, you'l get more info there than anywhere.
I pretty sure but not 100% that a 750 zip will work in the BR8 and in the PC. Dont quote me. I couldnt find much on the subject myself. I use VS's with SCSI outs so I use a 1 gig Jaz to get stuff in and out. Yes it works with the BR8 converter as well. More food for thought.
Just remember, NOTHING IN THE 250 RANGE WILL WORK with the BR8 wave converter.

Ed at spectragrow.com/BR8/ says you can install an Amtron card reader in the BRate and it works great.HE says only this card reader will work and with a 512 SD card he gets over 4 hrs recording time.I ordered the drive and I should have it by tomorrow.I will post after i install it and let you know if it works like he says.I always liked my BRate but ZIP disks are not a good medium(my older ones wont work anymore, that damn "Disk Busy" error).the amtron drive can read SD,CF,Memory sticks and more.Stay Tuned

I installed the Amtron Card Reader in my BR-8.Now it is like a new machine.I used an 128MB SD card and got over an hour of recording time.No more "Drive busy"errors.Go to spectragrow.com/BR8 to find out the right card reader to order.I found that I had to insert the SD card before turning it on to initialize it and if you have tracks recorded on it you also have to insert it before turning it on.But these are minor things compared to the way it works now.if you own a br8 you should do this upgrade ,you wont be disappointed.

I use the wave. convertor so Idon't see the point of adding a larger drive, because generally a 100 mg per song is plenty for me.
Nice to know it can be done though.

the reason to put in a card reader in the BR-8 is that Zip Disks are not a good media.Songs I recorded on Zip Disks 4 yrs ago dont work on the br-8.As a recording medium SD cards are the way to go,

I'm an 840 user and also had very good luck with the zips, never a problem.
However I did the CF mod because 100 megs was not a lot of time recording at MT1 mode and it makes the 840 extremely quiet.

The quite part would be nice. I have problems at times with zip disc noise on quite acoustic parts.

Did you try this conversion on your BR-8? I realize this is going back quite awhile just wanted to know if it worked.
