Hey Guys, I was sent the VS ENCYCLOPEDIA and DVD tutorials recently to check out and evaluate and after a few minutes of browsing through the book and checking out the videos, I must say this is one incredible resource that EVERY person who owns a VS2480 should buy. It appears that the pricing is quite affordable but considering how well its layed out, it's only pennies compared to what you've already invested.

There are NUMEROUS picture illustrations that are layed out logically and with explanations that actually make sense. Unlike the typical manual that really is a reference, this actually teaches you how to learn and operate the machine.

You can check it out and order it from the publisher here:

http://www.plancton.de/english1.html

I make nor gain anything from this, it's just a highly valuable resource that I feel quite strongly in. BUY IT, you won't regret it!

A big second to Brad's post.

I have the book and DVD and love them. Very clear, concise, and 'real world.' I also love that the DVD is presented from the VGA point of view instead of the VS's LCD screen.

Great section on plug-in's, too on the DVD. Well worth the money to demystify the VS24XX machines (I have the 2400CD). Highly recommended.

I received my copy from Germany to Fort Wayne, IN in about 2-weeks, but that was also during the holiday season--so pretty quick.

The DVD looks interesting ---but then I would have to buy a DVD player & screen > to place in the studio ..so I could do quick reference > Nope...

The product sounds like a great idea though ~!

I received mine in under two weeks and again, it's quite affordable. I couldn't imagine how it could get any more affordable than buying direct from the publisher. Being that I received it so quick and it's already so affordable, it's not really ideal for us to stock it being that the VS2480 is discontinued and the service direct is excellent. That's why I made this post, so you can buy direct.

Unless you use the VS2480 daily and know every little detail about every function---you must have this. I'm a FIRM believer in education, that's why I take so much time with my clients to discuss the details, long-range goals and where they want to be and to go over the gear inside and out so that when they are ready to buy, they are well-informed. But after they purchase the product, it's up to them to learn how to operate it and that usually just comes by doing. The problem is getting there.

THIS TRAINING RESOURCE IS THE BEST OUT THERE for the VS...without it, you're crippling yourself and not fully getting what you paid for.

I've had the both for a while,
The book is superb..
The DVD, what I can watch, is just as good. Though mine won't play on my Mac (in my 'studio' near my VS) but sort of plays on my DVD player upstairs in my lounge.

I beleive planctn have no fixed the DVD problem (they found a bug), so new customers should be ok.

The DVD's are fixed however they are in pal format so won't play in all dvd player formats. They play fine on my PC though. Your from Germany so you shouldn't have a problem anyway.

Finalizer,

oops, sorry, NOW fixed the DVDs.

As for region 2, yep, I live in europe, and my dvd player is region less, as is the one in my mac ;-)

I mailed plancton, was asked for a date I purchased the dvds, no reposnse since.

anyway, the books is excellent, of more us than the DVDs in my personal opinion, so if you can't afford both, get the book!

Ok folks, tell me a bit more. I know there's another thread about the DVD and book, but I'd rather not wade through 10 pages of stuff to gather info \:\)

Is the encyclopedia sort of like a super manual for the 2480? Does it list terms and show pictures, does it offer advice for using that component (mastering room, reverb, etc)?

For the DVD, does it just show you how the EQ for the 2480 works, or does it help you EQ better? Erm, I don't really know what else to ask, thanks!

Here's the link to everything you need to know. Let it be said that these are the best VS learning tools on the market today and they should be in every VSer's library:

I agree, again, with Paul and Brad.

The book/DVD combo is essential stuff for VS24XX users! I was going thru the book a couple of nights ago and it is amazing (the DVD is excellent, as I've said here and the other thread). The book is so clear on how things work...you'll have so many lightbulbs come on even if you're experienced that it's well worth the money.

An invaluable reference resource...keep it near your machine!

I can't believe I didn't know about it until it was brought forth to me directly, so I can only imagine how many VS users have NO idea about this product. Paul, do you think it's possible to make a sticky?

Yeah, when I look at the dvd properties that's what it says? On the Plancton site it says they are in PAL format. I'm using Windows Media Player.

Doh!

Last week, while reading this thread, I got sold on the idea of buying this. It hasn't got here, yet. I hope the DVDs will work.

Hi,

as we announced earlyer, some american DVD players are not able to play PAL DVD correctly. Please try first another DVD player or a computer.
If the probems can not be resolved, we can send you an older version in the NTSC format. But it's quality does not meet the PAL standard.
We check all outgoing DVDs on a commercial dual format player and in a Mac (thank you Brad from Sweetwater).

best regards

Martin Sittner

I tried one of the DVDs on a different player before going to work this morning and it worked fine. I was hoping it would work on the PC in the studio as that would be the most convenient but, I'll work something out. Thanks

It has been about 6 weeks since I ordered the DVD and it has not arrived. Has anyone else had such a lengthy delay in delivery? I checked with PayPal and Plancton got their dough and my delivery information is correct.

Jes,

Plancton ships right away - usually with 72 hours. There must be a problem with your transaction - probably a lost package in the mail. That happens more frequently overseas. Contact them immediately and you'll have your DVD in a week. These guys are a class act when it comes to service.
