Hi all,

Just joined the planet and first impressions are excellent, a lot of very clever people here so hopefully I can learn a thing or two!!

Anyway, I've just bought the VS2480CD, the machine itself is awesome but the manuals are about as crap as usual.

Roland used to supply video manuals which were amazing at demystifying everything. Saddly they went bust and Roland can't supply anymore due to copyright issues.

I was wondering if any of you kind soles out there have a copy for sale, original or copy is fine but as I'm in England it has to play on English video machines.

Got me fingers crossed, in the meantime I look forward to making a contribution here in the future.

Thanks

Dave

Not sure what you mean by Roland "going bust" etc., but here's the link to their site and the video manuals:

http://www.rolandus.com/products/subcategory.asp?catid=1&subcatid=2&page=3

That's only page 3 of 3.

I've purchased 4 of the manuals and I don't know what I'd do without them.

Hi The Un-dr,

Thanks for your input, the Roland bust thing is an example of my head working faster than my fingers !!

The Company that made the vids in the U.K.was called Labyrinth and it's them that have gone bust not Roland.

I checked out your link to Roland U.S. and from what I understand, U.S. videos don't play on English machines, am I wrong???

Appreciate your help though.

Dave

Hi Wolfcity,

You are correct. U.S. videos are in NTSC, English are in PAL. The formats are not compatible.

However, the DVD version of manuals can be played on certain players....you have to buy a DVD player that can play all regions. My girlfriend just bought such a machine on Amazon for less that 100USD so she could watch DVD's produced in England.

Good luck,

Joe

I've asked this question before and did not get a response, so I'll try again. Is the DVD version the same as the VHS version? The VHS version did not feature the use of a VGA monitor. I'm hoping for a version that uses the VGA monitor and mouse in the demos.

Hey Wolf, alot of info in the manuals and seems very confusing in the beginning however if you take the time almost all you need is right there in the owners manual. I must admit there are some hidden features which the manual doesn't explain but between the manual and these fine people here at the Planet I've reached leaps and bounds since my purchase.

amiller,

Just a thought, but you may not get a definitive answer here because it is unlikely anyone has purchased or watched both the VHS and DVD versions. You may have better luck calling Roland or asking Laura on her "Ask Laura" forum (go to the main VS Planet BBS page and scroll down...)

I am 99% sure that the DVD manual is simply the VHS manual on DVD.

If they were going to re-do it to feature the VGA, they would promote a "new" VHS version of the manual, as well as the DVD.

Also... the whole premise of the video manual is to make it apply to the "right out of the box" version of the 2480... i.e. the widest audience.

I am thinking that Roland's marketing department came up with the idea of taking the existing video manuals, and putting them in DVD format.

Laura would know better...
